Don Gartner was the commanding officer of the Seventy-first Lyran Heavy Armor Regiment of the Fifth Lyran Guards as of 3062.[1]

Leftenant General Gartner, serving with the Fifth Lyran Guards, was stationed on Markab in 3062. Gartner was a veteran of Operation BALDUR and a survivor of the Fifth Lyran's battle for Skondia, although he struggled to come to terms with the carnage of those events. Gartner lost most of his command to the Draconis Combine forces on Skondia and was also involved in a "friendly fire" incident where he destroyed one of his own tanks. While a review board cleared Gartner of any official blame, the stigma of the incident remained with him.[1]
