Erit Star Cluster
System information

The Erit Star Cluster (or simply Erit Cluster) is a star cluster situated (as of 3024) within the borders of the Lyran Commonwealth. At the time, it was described as "a tiny island of relative prosperity and technology in a rising sea of barbarism".[1]

Though nominally under the rule of House Steiner, the Erit cluster was factually ruled by the traders of House Mailai who maintained a network of trade contacts between the Eritese systems and the Commonwealth as well as Periphery systems beyond the Commonwealth's border.[1]

The planet Drovahchein II is located in the heart of the Erit cluster. House Mailai techs from Gharisport, on Drovahchein II's minor southern continent, possess the knowledge and equipment to overhaul a worn-out JumpShip, as they demonstrated on Renfred Tor's Merchant-class Invidious in or shortly before 3024.[1]

The Erit cluster does not appear on any published BattleTech star maps under this name. However, its position can be narrowed down by a process of elimination:

There is an official ruling[2] stating that all systems within the Inner Sphere's boundaries are shown on the maps. Since the Erit cluster is explicitly confirmed to lie in Lyran Commonwealth (House Steiner) space, it follows that it must therefore be on the maps under another name.

Its nature as a star cluster and its position in the general area between Tharkad, Trellwan and the Oberon Confederation leaves the Dark Nebula area as the only mapped feature that can conceivably encompass the Erit Star Cluster and its multiple constituent star systems within its boundaries. The Dark Nebula as a whole is described as a largely unmapped area of space containing at least seventeen pulsars and numerous red and white dwarf stars. It stands to reason that the Erit Star Cluster comprises of the mapped portion (or a part thereof) of the Dark Nebula.

In this thread, in the "Ask the Writers" section on the official BattleTech Forum that explicitly provides canonical rulings and clarifications (also archived here): "[T]he 3025 maps from FASA are deemed to be 'complete'. We don't have inhabited Great House (or major periphery) systems that are not shown on the maps."
