Description
The Mastodon is an Assault OmniMech built originally by the Rasalhague Dominion and it's Clan Ghost Bear brethren.[1]
Spurred by the Clan Hell's Horses invasion of 3147, this unusually ponderous design marked a shift in the Dominion's preferred combat doctrine, previously focused around swift, agile attackers. The result is a powerful, resilient Omnimech capable of filling both defensive and heavy assault roles.[1]
Built by Jötunn BattleWorx of Goito and walking off production lines in 3148, the Mastodon was built to withstand the bristling assaults of oncoming units. The 'Mech may not be especially mobile, but its 285-rated Extra-Light Engine is sufficient for its role as a steadfast assault platform. Fitted with 15.5 tons IceSheet Ferro-Fibrous Armor and with a [1]
Weapons and Equipment
The design's Prime Configuration is geared towards long range firepower, which comes in the form of a pair of Streak LRM-20s, mounted in each of the 'Mech's side torsos. These fire & forget launchers are fitted with four tons of ammunition with a fixed mounted CASE II, allowing the machine to handle exploding ammunition. Additionally, two ER PPCs round out the Prime's arsenal, each fitted with an arm actuator. To handle the weapon's heat load, the configuration is given eight additional Double Heat Sinks.[3]
Alternate Configurations
- Alternate Configuration A
- A sniper configuration, this arrangement equipment range of ballistic and energy weapons for range attacks. This firepower comes in form of a right arm mounted Gauss Rifle which has 16 rounds of ammunition. An LRM-15 Launcher with Artemis IV is fitted in right torso, carrying sixteen volley of fire. All ammunition is found in the right torso, protected by CASE II. Not to deny the 'Mech any close range defense, three Large Pulse Lasers are fitted in the left arm. Six additional Double Heat Sinks are added to help migrate the Alpha's weapons heat. BV(2.0) = 2,856[3]
- Alternate Configuration B
- Intended in the Juggernaut role, the Beta configuration well rounded array of weaponry gear mostly for close range combat. It's long range firepower comes from a single Streak LRM-20 with two tons of ammunition. Close combat weapons include; a pair of Streak SRM-4 launchers found in right arm, with four Medium Pulse Lasers alongside them. However, the configuration's primary weapon in short & medium ranges comes in form of a massive LB X-20 Autocannon mounted in the left arm. The 'Mech's 15 rounds of ammunition is protected by the left torso with added CASE II, with all of the missules stored in the right. Four additional Double Heat Sinks are added as well. BV (2.0) = 2,793[3]
- Alternate Configuration C
- Another Juggernaut of the original four Configurations, the Charlie relies on energy weapons verses ballistics of the Beta. It's primary weapon is a Gauss Rifle, its 16 rounds of ammo are fitted in right torso. For general combat, the left arm houses an ER PPC, with 4 ER Medium Lasers in the left torso. For anti-vehicle / infantry purposes, the right torso houses three fiery Plasma Cannons with their 30 rounds of ammo. Eight additional Double Heat Sinks added as well BV (2.0) = 3,092[3]
- Alternate Configuration D
- Intended as fire support configuration, the Delta comes with four LRM-15 launchers, with pair of the launcher fitted to each of the 'Mech's arms. All 88 volleys of missile are split between the side torso missile bays and single ton per arm. Not completely dependent on the Launchers, four additional Medium Pulse Lasers are added, split between each of the arms. BV (2.0) = [3]
