Unit Description
The Second Buena Guards is a regional military force belonging to the Lyran Commonwealth.
History
The unit was formed from the survivors of the Fifth Alliance Guards.[1] In 3085 the Second Buena Guards were stationed on Son Hoa, acting as the garrison force.[2] They also helped StarCorps engineers move damaged production lines to Loburg.[1]
Rocinha's Caballeros made use of their Winterhawk transports on the Harvison Flats to bedevil elements of the Second Buena Guards. They used their Winterhawks to deploy the Caballeros infantry in the rare natural strong-points along the route of the Guards' retreat to Zanzibar. When the conventional elements of the Guards deployed to assault, the Winterhawks would return and evacuate the mercenary troops. Such efforts stalled the retreat of the Guards and allowed the Eighth Tamarind Regulars to cut off part of their conventional forces.[3]
Under the command of Kommandant Ludwig Steiner, forces from the Second joined an LCAF task force to retake the world of Valloire, working alongside the Lyran Irregulars and elements of the Carlisle BPM. Despite an early setback trying to take the planet's spaceport, the task force was successful, reducing the Buena Collective forces to a mere lance of operational 'Mechs by the time they fled the planet.[4]
