6th Defenders of Andurien

The Sixth Defenders of Andurien were one of the Duchy of Andurien's military units.

History

In 2900 the Sixth fought Capellan troops on Teng, and destroyed them.

During Anton Marik's revolt, the Sixth deployed from Andurien and visited Wallacia and Ipswich before arriving on Calloway VI alongside several other FWLM regiments. There they fought against Wolf's Dragoons Beta Regiment, holding the elite mercenaries in place long enough for other units to defend the Earthwerks plant. The Sixth Defenders held until the Dragoons were reinforced by Gamma Regiment. The Sixth Defenders continued to fight, putting pressure on the Dragoons. Eventually the Dragoons were driven off-world.

As part of the Duchy of Andurien's assault on the Capellan Confederation the Sixth jumped into the Grand Base system. After a large AeroSpace battle at the jump points, the Defenders landed on the world. There they drove off several scouting attacks by Warrior House Fujita. Rather than move on the Earthwerks plants and take them, however, the Defenders chose to destroy the Warrior House troops. This led to months of cat and mouse games between the two units. Finally the Sixth Defenders decided to split into battalions: One to track the Capellans, one would assault the Earthwerks plant, and the third would destroy the CCAF training facilities. The Earthwerks strike went well, and the training facility was taken with no casualties.

The Fujita troops split into smaller units and performed ambushes on the Sixth. These many ambushes were so effective that the Defenders stopped trying to take them down and rejoined the other two Defenders battalions. The Earthwerks strike bogged down as the Defenders approached the main 'Mech plant. After a week of fighting the plant's main offices were in the Sixth's hands. The training facility, formerly the headquarters of the Death Commandos, became the scene of assassinations and disappearances. Sigma battalion lost many troops to "ghosts" before a pair of Death Commando infantrymen were killed and identified. The Defenders continued to lose troops in mysterious ways, and the Warrior House troops continued to strike at Defender positions to prevent the Defenders from resting. After a series of human wave attacks from the CCAF infantry and militia units on world, the Sixth's commander tried to link his forces at the Earthwerks plant. The Death Commandos and Warrior House troops immediately struck the Defenders of Andurien and after three days of intense fighting both sides withdrew. The Defenders suffered serious losses, and on April 17, 3031, the Defenders withdrew from Grand Base.

In 3038 two battalions of the Sixth Defenders were garrisoning Lopez. The 4th Oriente Hussars, 1st Free Worlds Guards, and 30th Marik Militia landed on the world and began a series of hit and run raids against the Defenders. A large number of defections took place as members of the Sixth saw that things were not going well. The Defenders took serious losses and attempted to retreat from Lopez, but the Hussars stopped them. Less than a battalion of the Sixth was combat capable, and instead of destroying his unit the Sixth's commander surrendered.
