Early History

By 2305, Brusett was considered to be a client state of the Capellan Hegemony, but in a sign of events to come the Capellan interests on Brusett were already being contested diplomatically by various mercantile interests backed by the Davion family, highlighting the biggest internal problem suffered by the Capellan Hegemony - just how far-flung the borders of the Hegemony were, outside of the Hegemony core systems.[2]

During the Jihad, the Taurian Concordat attempted to recapture Brusett, which had been annexed by the Federated Suns during the Reunification War. Mercenaries employed by the Concordat managed to briefly capture Brusett on the 15th of September 3071, as part of a continuing campaign against the Federated Suns.[19][20] The Concordat attacked Brusett again in January 3075, with the newly-formed 4th Taurian Lancers deployed to capture the world. The Lancers encountered elements of the mercenary unit Hansen's Roughriders on Brusett, and were unable to destroy the Roughriders despite bombing Brusett spaceport and capital city with nuclear weapons; the Roughriders then managed to successfully ambush the Taurian Lancers, destroying the unit.[21][22]

The Word of Blake's 22nd Militia struck at Brusett on the 30th of May 3075. The Federated Suns responded by mustering and deploying a small flotilla of ships including the WarShip FCS Kathil to the system to stave off an anticipated attack by the Concordat; the Taurians had already taken advantage of the raid on Wrentham by the 22nd to seize that world. Taurian forces arrived in the Brusett system in late June, and on the 30th of June the Taurian Quixote-class WarShip TCS Vendetta and the FCS Kathil battled over Brusett. The TCS Vendetta was forced to retreat, but the FCS Kathil was lost in the battle, and several major cities on the planet suffered horrendous collateral damage due to the nuclear weapons both sides used in orbit and within the atmosphere of Brusett.[23][24]
