The Drake's Dragons was a mercenary unit that turned pirate in the early 31st century.[1]

History[edit]

Mercenary days[edit]

In the year 3000, Drake's Dragons was working for the Free Worlds League with a garrison contract on Goth Khakar. That same year they were assigned Captain William Langston as their liaison officer from the FWLM, who would later discover the unit was involved in criminal activities.

Upon the discovery of these illegal actions, the Dragons then tried to murder Langston and ransacked the capital which killed hundreds of civilians and militia before escaping off world.[1]

Pirate days[edit]

After escaping, Drake's Dragons were pursued by Morrison's Madmen, a mercenary unit who had been contracted to hunt down the Dragons. That unit, which included William Langston, was able to find and kill several of the Dragon's core members, but several other members were able to flee Free Worlds League space.[1]

After several years rebuilding and raiding other realms, the Dragons returned to attacking Free Worlds League worlds along the border with the Periphery after discovering that the Madmen's CO had been severely injured in a combat drop in 3007.[2]

In 3011, Drake's Dragons sent one of their sub-gangs, the Cobras, under the command of Aeneas "Ripper" Papaspaneas to raid Payvand.[2] Aeneas Gang ransacked the town of Lowson and captured several transports full of gold. During the fighting, more than one hundred civilians were killed as the Dragons [3] crushed the Payvand's Militia and engaged the nearby Langston's Lancers mercenary unit.[2]

The pirates then loaded the gold from the trucks into their Maxim Heavy Hover Transports and fled to their hidden DropShip. Langston's Lancers scouts were able to trace their movements and the unit ambushed them at Colman Pass, where they crushed the pirates and only one BattleMech and one hovercraft were able to temporarily escape. The Cobra's DropShip was later found and destroyed by Langston's Lancers aerospace command, the Black Sheep.[4]

From this point on, the Lancers and Dragons were locked in a vendetta that would only end when one side or the other was completely destroyed.[4]
