Leonard Franklin Hallis was an engineer in the service of the Federated Commonwealth during the Clan Invasion era.

History

Born in 3035, was raised in a foster home with his younger brother Andrew. His gift for mathematics enabled him to obtain a degree from the New Avalon Institute of Science on June of 3052. Leonard wasn't a MechWarrior or soldier, like his father and siblings. Lacking any desire to fight, he skipped all his mandatory military training as he can, pursuing a degree as an engineer working on several key projects for the NAIS. His refusal to the military life made him the black sheep of his family. Only in his last years began to feel something was missing on his life, outside his career. He began dating some of his coworkers, hoping to marry and begin a family, but never had a chance.[1] Leonard's learning of his father and aunt Jodi on Tukayyid shook him very deeply, but their deaths were only the first: Unknown to Leonard, his family was too his doom: one of his ancestors, Franklin Hallis, left the Inner Sphere three centuries ago with Operation Exodus, and helped to form the Clans... more specifically, Clan Wolverine.[2] Despite the distant and indirect realtionship, for Clan Steel Viper and Clan Nova Cat, who killed his father and aunt, Bordon Hallis and Jodi Ann Hallis, respectively, in the Battle of Tukayyid, it was enough for both clans to engage on a Trial of Bloodright, essentially, a big reward lay by Nicholas Kerensky to hunt and annihilate all descendants of Clan Wolverine.[3] The Clans stars than had killed Bordon and Jodi Ann began their manhunt: after an information raid on Morges, they uncovered Kristin and their siblings existance, and they go for them. Kristin was the first target. They killed her on Rutbak, and later go for Leonard.[4] Luckily for Leonard, both Clan's units, after killing his sister Kristin, found him working at something called Kohler Project on planet Northwind, garrisoned by three regiments of the Northwind Highlanders, preventing the Clan units to attack frontally. In fact, the Nova Cat's first attempt to kill him failed and all were arrested.[5] Leonard was put under ComStar protection at the ComStar Compund Central on Northwind... ironically, the same place where the Nova Cats were held, but a team of Steel Vipers on foot infiltrated at the complex, finally reaching him.

Death

Initially, Leonard refused to fight the Clanners, cowering under a table, but after hearing about their parents killed by the Clanners, Leonard pull out a needler pistol from under his clothes and, enraged, tried to kill them... but he was killed first.[6]

Legacy

After Leonard's death, the Nova Cats captives managed to escape in the confusion, and both Clan unit left Northwind and went to Zurich, aiming for the last known alive Hallis: Andrew. His unit help him to plant an ambush aiming to destroy both Clan units. As Andrew was boiling from rage and wanted to avenge their siblings, the ambush failed and Andrew was killed too, putting an end to all known members of House Hallis.[7]

Personality

Leonard can be described only as "meek", very shy and timid around the members of the opposite sex. Lacking confidence in social gatherings and only comfortable in his office, was jealous of his brother and sister's life's full with adventure and travels, but never dare to explore the Inner Sphere.[8]

Physical appearance

Middle-aged, was considered by most of his colleagues as something of a gnat of a man. Skinny, always wear thick, wire-rimmed glasses, and sandy blonde hair beginning to recede.
