Description
Designed as speedy infighter for originally Clan Nova Cat. The machine is cheap and effective combat vehicle. The vehicle has unique "glass" dual cockpits split between primary weapon on front of the vehicle while mounting a smaller anti-infantry turret just behind on its left side cockpit.
The Vehicle unique split cockpit designed to allows the cockpit modules to eject from the vehicle.[1]
History
After its immerision with the Inner Sphere in 3060, Clan Nova Cat found its advance manfacturing capacities lacking. Due to harsh realities of living in Inner Sphere, not having money, nor the time to build up its Tournment. Thus the Clan decided to begin to embrace Inner Sphere's combined-arms doctrine of combat.
Working with Luthien Armor Works as it did with Shoden project, LAW's defunct facilities on Irece, this facility began to geared to produce the SM1 Tank Destroyer in 3065. Clan Nova Cat provides the advance technology while upgrade LAW's Barcella facilities on Irece. Brokering a with the LAW, the includes Clan get shares the manfacturing plant itself, and purchasing rights for first 5 years of production. Due to its appearance usual apperance, SM1 "dubbed the Suicide Machine" by its pilots initial reaction of feeling over exposed with its tank's all ferro-glass cockpit.
The vehicle was accepted by Nova Cat Galaxies after volunteer crews preformance in its Trial of Position. When vehicles were first introduced, several of these units have appeared in ranks of Draconis Combine's local Ryoken regiment. Which have won through trials.
LAW has been highly successful selling the vehicle throughout the Combine.
Armament
Mounting deadly Clan Ultra Autocannon fixed its nose, gun has over 6 tons of ammunition. The tank mounts 4 light machine guns in its small turret for anti-infantry work.
Variants
- SM1A - This variant swaps out the Ultra AC for LB-20X Class gun, with 5 tons ammunition. It has also Light Active Probe, Machine Gun Array added fitted to the machine guns.
- SM3 - Failed Trail version of SM1, mounting single Gauss Rifle & Medium Pulse Laser. After failed trials, engineers noted that Arrow IV system could be mounted in its place. So far, Arrow IV variant had not gone further than speculation stage due to complication applying new equipment[2]
Notes
The SM1 was first introduced in Mechwarrior: Dark Age (MWDA) Collective Game by WizKids. FanPro, that time period of the license holder of Classic Battletech, published SM1 as part of CBT Record Sheet Book, which containing first release of units for the MWDA game.
