The Trondheim system was home to at least one habitable world, Trondheim I, and (as of 3095) one of four systems within the JàrnFòlk homeworlds, located in the Spinward region of the Deep Periphery.[2] It was approximately 780 light-years from Terra in the coreward/spinward direction.[e]

System Description

The Trondheim system was located in the Spinward Sector of the Deep Periphery, close to the border of the Coreward sector and to or partially within the Vela Nebula.[2] The Trondheim system consisted of a class G2V primary orbited by at least one world and is located close to the Hofn and Hamar systems.[1]

System History

The Trondheim system was colonized at some point after the founding of the first JàrnFòlk colony on Ålborg in 2504.[3]

Trondheim I—more commonly known as Trondheim—was a temperate world with two moons named Glittertindane and Trollvegn, and was orbited by at least one dry dock.[1]

Planetary History

Trondheim was home to some of the JàrnFòlk's few heavy industries, concentrated around the capital city of Narvik, and was where all of the parts for their various starships were manufactured and shuttled to orbiting dry docks. Little was known of the facilities, as the families who share responsibility for guarding them were willing to kill interlopers, but the facilities appeared to be heavily automated and may have dated back to the founding of Trondheim. This industry made Trondheim the main venue for JàrnFòlk DropShip and JumpShip maintenance, and the defense of the facilities was notable as being one of the few endeavors undertaken by multiple families in cooperation.[1]

The population of Trondheim shared a common culture with the other JàrnFòlk - named for the Jàrnskib, or "iron ships" that brought them to their new homeworld - which had evolved during the time in which the colonists spent their time as itinerant explorers and traders, fleeing the Draconis Combine depredations inflicted on the Rasalhague Principality worlds. The JàrnFòlk culture was based on the Scandinavian traditions preserved by the original refugees, and the population of Trondheim was kept in check by the feuding and rough lifestyle common to the JàrnFòlk. The population was divided between the subsidiary families, descended from the crews of the original JàrnFòlk ships, while the nine ruling families were descended from the command staff of the nine ships.[3]

There was a shift in power on Trondheim after Operation REVIVAL; where the planet was once dominated by the Heyerdal family, the Heyerdals lost power when their Jàrnskib was lost to the Clans. With the drop in significance of the Heyerdal family, the James clan rose to prominence in their place.[1]

While the JàrnFòlk language was a blend of several ancient Scandinavian languages, (primarily but not limited to Danish and Old Norse,) Trondheim had evolved a distinct dialect unique to itself but comprehensible to the people of the other JàrnFòlk worlds, a linguistic shift echoed on each of the other planets.[3]
