History[edit]

Star League Era[edit]

During the Star League era the Thirty-ninth Galedon Regulars shared a common structure with the other regiments of the Galedon Regulars, due to the threat posed by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns. This common structure saw the Thirty-ninth assigned a swathe of conventional regiments for support - five armor regiments and five infantry regiments, an artillery regiment and a reinforced aerospace fighter wing. Second only to the Sword of Light regiments in priority, the various Galedon Regulars regiments had excellent levels of supplies, and a high level of access to new BattleMechs and equipment.[1]

Second Succession War[edit]

During the Second Succession War the Thirty-ninth was one of the units involved in Operation AKAI KAZE - also known as Operation RED WIND - an offensive against the Federated Suns launched in April 2830. The Thirty-ninth dropped onto Crossing, which was defended by three AFFS training cadres - the First NAMA and First and Fourth Sakhara Academy Training Battalions - and a mercenary regiment, the Eighth Striker Regiment of the Fighting Uruk Hai. The Commanding Officer of the Thirty-ninth was dismissive of all his opponents; he believed that the Eighth would lack commitment, being mercenaries, while he anticipated the training cadres' lack of experience would mean they had little value. He was proven wrong on all counts; despite a lack of experience, the cadres were determined, stubborn opponents, while the Eighth Striker Regiment proved itself entirely willing to take risks to defend the planet. By the time the Thirty-ninth withdrew, it was lucky to escape with a third of its original strength.[3]

The Thirty-ninth didn't survive the Second Succession War, being one of twelve Galedon Regulars regiments to be destroyed before the War ended.[2]

Tactics[edit]

Star League Era[edit]

Due to the high number of Sun Zhang Military Academy and Galedon Military Academy recruits within the Galedon Regulars, the Regulars often displayed fanatical loyalty and courage. However, the elitism displayed by these same recruits led to poor coordination between the Regulars and the attached convention forces, who were often used as cannon fodder.[1]
