System Description[edit]
Crossing is located near the Benet and Hoff systems[4] and consists of a class F9V primary orbited by at least four planets. It lies Spinward from Terra. During the thirty-first century a recharge station was in place at the system's zenith jump point.[1][3]
System History[edit]
The Crossing system was colonized during or shortly before the Age of War and was a member of the Federated Suns by the end of the era.[5][6]

Crossing IV, more commonly known simply as Crossing, is the fourth planet in the system and has four moons named Journeyman, Scope, Trinket and Wayfarer.[1]
Planetary History[edit]
First Succession War[edit]
Two of Crossing's moons were AFFS military reservations. Trinket was home to a hostile environment training center, where infantry units were trained in xenoplanetary, vacuum, and zero-gravity environments. Typically two regiments were present at any time. Wayfarer was used by the Department of the Quartermaster as a regional aerospace proving ground. The Quartermaster used the Wayfarer facility to test missile ammunition and seeker systems developed by new military contractors.[1] Crossing was invaded during the first half of the major invasion into the Federated Suns launched by the Draconis Combine in May 2787.[16] Crossing was liberated by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in 2817–2818, as part of the third and final major counteroffensive of the First Succession War against the Draconis Combine. Crossing was one of the last six worlds to be liberated by the Federated Suns.[18]
Second Succession War[edit]
During the Second Succession War Crossing was targeted by the DCMS in Operation AKAI KAZE - also known as Operation RED WIND - an offensive against the Federated Suns launched in April 2830. The Thirty-ninth Galedon Regulars dropped onto Crossing, which was defended by three AFFS training cadres - the First NAMA and First and Fourth Sakhara Academy Training Battalions - and a mercenary regiment, the Eighth Striker Regiment of the Fighting Uruk Hai. The Commanding Officer of the Thirty-ninth was dismissive of all his opponents; he believed that the Eighth would lack commitment, being mercenaries, while he anticipated the training cadres' lack of experience would mean they had little value. He was proven wrong on all counts; despite a lack of experience, the cadres were determined, stubborn opponents, while the Eighth Striker Regiment proved itself entirely willing to take risks to defend the planet. By the time the Thirty-ninth withdrew, it was lucky to escape with a third of its original strength.[54]
Third Succession War[edit]
Crossing was home to a large civilian population. Many of these civilians were retired AFFS members, and so the MIIO maintained a presence on the world to look for activity that supported the Warrior's Cabal or other anti-Federated Suns movements. By the end of the Third Succession War the designated ruler of Crossing, Baron Caine, was actively pushing for the Draconis March Militia to be expanded via the raising of an additional command from Crossing. It was uncertain whether Duke Sandoval, the ruler of the Draconis March would have been able to obtain the vehicles and BattleMechs needed for such an expansion given the number of commands engaged in combat across the March at any given time, but while in the past the suggestion of such an expansion had been fruitless given the combination of strong aerospace defenses on Wayfarer and the constant military traffic through the system, the advent of the Fourth Succession War made the idea more appealing.[1]
Forces from the Second Sword of Light raided Crossing and fought elements of the First NAIS Training Cadre. There were several engagements of BattleMaster vs BattleMaster that though not decisive showcased the 'Mechs raw firepower.[55]
Fourth Succession War[edit]
On 4 September 3029, four Draconis Combine regiments engaged Wolf's Dragoons in the Battle of Crossing (3029).[56]

Geography[edit]
The two major continents on Crossing are named Charon and Ganse; Charon is located in the southern hemisphere, while Ganse is in the western hemisphere. Notable geographical features on Crossing include the Tartarus Caldera, a large bowl-shaped caldera, and a sea known as the Averrant Sea that has crystal-clear water due to an analogue of a monocellular plankton unique to the seas of Crossing and a complete lack of predators.[1]
Planetary Locations[edit]
- Averrant City: the planetary capital and site of the largest nonmilitary spaceport on Crossing; located on Ganse[1]
- Crassus: a city on Crossing notable for having an extremely high population of retired military veterans[1]
- New Rhodes: a city on Crossing notable for having an extremely high population of retired military veterans[1]
- Rawlings Plain[63]
- Tartarus Caldera: a two-kilometer wide crater formed from a collapsing volcano; site of the Battle of Crossing (3029)[56]
- The Shores: a popular tourist destination some fourteen kilometers south of Averrant City[1]
