The Emporia system is the location of at least one inhabited world or construct and as of 3152 was located in the Draconis March within the Federated Suns.[2]

System Description[edit]

Emporia is located near the Allerton and DeWitt systems. It lies Spinward from Terra.[2]

System History[edit]

The Emporia system was settled at some point during the Star League era after the end of the Reunification War.[3][4]

By 3150, House Ritza was the ruling noble house on Emporia, with a number of other houses below them, House Vogel first among them. Aldric Ritza served as the Count of Emporia until his death in April 3150. Mason Ritza inherited his title and position.[39][40] The Count had the authority to grant the Emporia Medal of Valor.[41]

Planetary History[edit]

First Succession War[edit]

Emporia was invaded during the first half of the major invasion into the Federated Suns launched by the Draconis Combine in May 2787.[10] Emporia was liberated by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in 2817, as part of the third and final major AFFS counteroffensive of the First Succession War against the Draconis Combine.[12]

Dark Age[edit]

In 3150, the renegade Seventh Ghost Regiment moved to capture Emporia, hoping to turn it into a base for their independent empire-to-be. The invasion, launched on 6 April, ran into substantial resistance, particularly from the cadets of Ritza Academy. This drove the Seventh's leader to take increasingly extreme measures. Public executions encouraged resistance; bombardments and biological warfare failed to break the will of Emporia's defenders while wreaking havoc on the Seventh's own troops. Eventually, on 18 April, the invaders broke and withdrew, their commanding officer dead and their desertion revealed to what little remained of the regiment. Much of Emporia's nobility—including the ruling Count Aldric Ritza—had been slain, cities had been devastated, a biological weapon had wreaked havoc, and Ritza Academy had been destroyed, but Emporia held.[42]

On 21 October 3150, the new count, Mason Ritza, announced the formation of a personal BattleMech unit, Ritza's Revenge, formed of victorious Ritza Academy cadets. He also declared that a new military academy, the Emporia Military Academy, would take the place of the destroyed Ritza Academy. Funded by House Ritza and Federated Suns leaders, the Emporia Military Academy was to be built on the former location of the Ritza Academy, and was to be run in continuity with the former Ritza Academy by the remaining Ritza Academy faculty.[41]

Geography[edit]

Emporia is considered an agrarian planet with an abundance of land, but its axial tilt gives it a short growing season with a relatively small percentage of land. Over sixty percent of the land is not suited for crops, and few herd animals were considered hardy enough to thrive in its mountains.[43] The overall impression given was that the planet was self-sufficient, but unable to export notable amounts of food.

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Stonehaven Mountain Range: located near Liegeden[49]
    • Stag's Head: a jagged peak[49]
