System Description[edit]
New Ivaarsen is located near the Royal and Ballentine systems and consists of a class K1V primary orbited by at least three planets. It is located Spinward of Terra. During the thirty-first century, a recharge station was in place at both the zenith and nadir jump points.[4][1][2]
System History[edit]
The New Ivaarsen system was settled sometime during the Age of War or shortly thereafter.[4]

New Ivaarsen was known as a breadbasket world,[53] supporting not only itself but several nearby systems with its large amount of industry and agriculture. When the Crucis Pact formed, the Stephenson family saw the opportunity and grabbed it with both hands. New Ivaarsen has since become one of the most pro-Davion, anti-Kurita worlds in the Federated Suns. The fact that any Combine attack against either Robinson or New Avalon must travel through New Ivaarsen explains the presence of the New Ivaarsen Chasseurs on the world. Failure to neutralize New Ivaarsen would leave a large group of anti-Kurita forces in the Dragon's rear area.[1]
New Ivaarsen can lay claim to one of the most unique accolades: It has the highest literacy rate in the Federated Suns. Only Terra itself can claim a higher percentage, and not by much. In addition, the architecture of New Ivaarsen is required study for all such programs across the Inner Sphere.[1]
Planetary History[edit]
First Succession War[edit]
New Ivaarsen was invaded during the first half of the major invasion into the Federated Suns launched by the Draconis Combine in May 2787.[15] New Ivaarsen was liberated by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in 2812 as part of the third and final major AFFS counter-offensive of the First Succession War against the Draconis Combine.[17]
Third Succession War[edit]
In 3021 the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery's Fifth Galedon Regulars[26] deployed four Ostscout to scout possible landing parties for the invasion force. Evading all AFFS patrols and ending with only one 'Mech slightly damaged, they marked the best points for their comrades.[54] The DCMS raiding party landed on the planet and quickly overpowered the planet's garrison.[55]
New Ivaasen's defense had been left to an inexperienced Lieutenant Commander Arlin Stuart, as the raiding season had passed and the Kuritan assault unexpected. Commander Stuart used his House troops in defense of the planet's storehouses, leaving mercenary units to protect various strategic locations across the planet. The two battalions of Narhal's Raiders repeatedly requested replacement parts and ammo, only to be rebuffed. After a particularly difficult battle at the Keliher River, Captain Lewis Gilbert had enough and requested negotiations to desert their employer. The intervention of Fox's Teeth member Karl Ryder ended the standoff with an honor duel between the two.[53]
The Fifth Galedon Regulars charged their assault and medium lances against the Davion defense position outside the fortified city of Twin Peaks. The Kuritan forces lacked long-range weapons and when they tried to force their entry to the city they met the full power of the defender's long-range missile and autocannons that disabled several Galedon 'Mechs only halfway to the city gates. Unable to return effective fire many MechWarriors turned their 'Mechs around and charged for the nearest cover. The defenders held Twin Peaks until[26] the arrival of the Bremond Draconis March Militia was able to turn the tide and liberated the planet[55] forcing the Fifth Galedon Regulars to retreat.[26]
In 3024, elements of Wolf's Dragoons mercenary unit would attack New Ivaarsen.[56]
Fourth Succession War[edit]
Following a lull in early 3029, a number of new offensives began as the Fourth Succession War entered its second year. In early July 3029, Coordinator Takashi Kurita moved to Irurzun from Luthien and took more of an interest in combat actions on the border between the Draconis Combine and Federated Suns than he had earlier in the war, where his attention had been almost completely focused on Wolf's Dragoons. Ten days after arriving on Irurzun Takashi had drafted and launched a new offensive aimed at securing more worlds from the Federated Suns, and the DCMS inexorably annexed the worlds of the Galtor Thumb region. With New Ivaarsen being an obvious target for future invasion waves, in mid-3029 the AFFS High Command redeployed the Robinson Draconis March Militia and the First NAIS Training Cadre to New Ivaarsen, where they began preparing defenses in anticipation of an attack.[57]
