History[edit]

The Bleeding Eagles was a unit made up of Free Worlds League expatriates. In 3151, while billeted on Galatea, they were approached by Sarah Regis, leader of the newborn Tamar Pact. Regis sought to bolster her new nation's armed forces, which at that point consisted of just a single regiment of former Arcturan Guards. The Bleeding Eagles, along with several other mercenary units such as Burnt Offering and the prestigious Twenty-first Centauri Lancers, all agreed to Regis' offer.[1]

On the way from Galatea to the Tamar Pact's holdings, the Bleeding Eagles and their less-renowned counterparts soon found themselves butting heads with the Lancers. These disputes grew so bad that the Lancers eventually refused to work with either unit unless it was an absolute emergency.[2] After a series of missteps by the Bleeding Eagles and Burnt Offering during the campaign to retake Pandora, this rivalry came to a head. Any time the Lancers were posted in the vicinity of the Eagles, they found an increased number of disciplinary incidents and physical fights between their personnel. The tension came to a head in one notable incident perpetrated by the Killer Bees, a sub-unit of the Twenty-first Centauri Lancers. While the Eagles moved into position for a joint training exercise, the Killer Bees bombarded them with Arrow IV missile loaded with honey-flavored quillar syrup. Ironically, this prank led to a meeting of both units' commands and a subsequent clearing of the proverbial air, increasing their coordination.[3]

In 3152, the Eagles were tasked with securing the world of Graceland for the Pact. The Eagles' commander, Colonel Chester Barnes, expected a fight with whatever Clan Jade Falcon remnants remained on the world, but was surprised when his batchall was received cordially by Donal Malthus. Bearing no relation to the Clan Jade Falcon Bloodname, Malthus was a member of House Malthus, a Lyran family often accused of having ties to the criminal underworld. Malthus found the concept of the Tamar Pact intriguing and offered to join the newly-founded nation, provided that the Bleeding Eagles remained on Graceland as its dedicated security detachment.[4]
