Fortunes of War is a series of novellas announced by Catalyst Game Labs as unlockable stretch goals for the crowdfunding campaign for the BattleTech: Mercenaries boxset.

Various pledge tiers in the crowdfunding campaign allowed for the Fortunes of War stories to be received free as part of their included digital rewards, though only Regiment tier backers received all five stories, the lower pledge tiers having the option to purchase the remaining stories as add-ons during the campaign ahead of a being offered for normal retail purchase for non-backers.

1. Fortunes of War #1: Giving up the Ghost by Bryan Young - $200,000 stretch goal - Free to all backers
2. Fortunes of War #2: Blood Rage by Craig A. Reed, Jr. - $400,000 stretch goal - Free to Veteran backers and above
3. Fortunes of War #3: A Skulk of Foxes by Jason Hansa - $600,000 stretch goal - Free to Company backers and above
4. Fortunes of War #4: Hounds at Bay by Geoff Swift - $800,000 stretch goal - Free to Battalion backers and above
5. Fortunes of War #5: Heavy is the Head by Philip A. Lee - $1,000,000 stretch goal - Free to Regiment backers and above

Volumes

Starting on 28 Feb 2025, Catalyst Game Labs re-released these stories in volumes, except for A Skulk of Foxes which was re-released separately on 23 August 2024. CGL on their store page, stated: These are the same stories that were distributed to the BattleTech Mercenaries Kickstarter campaign. If you received this story through the campaign, you do not need to buy.
