Description[edit]
The Haruspex is a Federated Suns unmanned surveillance satellite, the first Inner Sphere-built armed unmanned surveillance satellite known to have been built since the fall of the Star League. Built during the FedCom Civil War, it was designed for both system-level surveillance and planetary battlefield oversight, though the few hastily deployed by the end of the war usually struggled with one or the other. The production run was short and small, lasting only through the first years of the Jihad up to the destruction of Galax Launch Systems's facilites on Galax. It is not known how many remain in service.[2]
Equipment & Capabilities[edit]
Recognizing that Lyran forces would try to defeat any surveillance satellites, Katherine Steiner-Davion's generals required that the satellite be wholly new and relatively heavily armed. The Haruspex carries two Thunderbolt 15 launchers and two medium pulse lasers, both automated, to push light threats back and force more dangerous attackers to destroy rather than capture the satellite. Advanced electronic surveillance equipment, still at the cutting edge by 3134, allows the Haruspex to serve its purpose.[2]
