Matthew Dillahunty was a sho-sa in the DCMS. In 3059, he was the commander of Third Battalion, Fifth Sun Zhang Academy Cadre.[1]

History[edit]

Dillahunty graduated from the Sun Zhang MechWarrior Academy several years prior to 3059 and he was assigned to the Fifth Sun Zhang Academy Cadre on Altona.[1]

At some point his time with the Fifth Sun Zhang, Dillahunty was promoted to the rank of tai-i. During a Nova Cat raid on Altona, Dillahunty distinguished himself with an innovative tactic. The Nova Cats were hammering one of the Fifth's flank, forcing the Combine forces back. Dillahunty then jumped his Wasp into the midst of the Clan 'Mechs, as if he had attempted a Death From Above attack but missed. He did not move his 'Mech and powered down his weapons, but not his targeting and communications systems. The Clan warriors assumed that Dillahunty's 'Mech was no longer functional and ignored it to press their attack. Dillahunty sent targeting data via the C3 network to the other officers in his company, allowing them to destroy two Nova Cats 'Mechs with concentrated fire. Before the Clan warriors realized that Dillahunty was acting as a spotter, he performed a crash-start of his 'Mech and jumped away from the Clan forces.[1]

By the start of 3059, Dillahunty had been promoted to sho-sa and given command of the Fifth Sun Zhang's third battalion. The Fifth Sun Zhang's commanding officer, Ishtar von Nielsburg, kept Dillahunty in the unit because of Dillahunty's tactical skill. Because Dillahunty was serving his fourth consecutive tour of duty with a Sun Zhang Cadre without graduating, he technically remained a Sun Zhang cadet despite his promotions.[1]

Later in 3059, the Fifth Sun Zhang took part in Operation BULLDOG and landed on Itabaiana during the second wave.[2][3]. The Forty-fourth Nova Cat Cavaliers defended Itabaiana.[3] The Fifth Sun Zhang challenged the Forty-fourth Cavaliers to a soccer match, which the Nova Cats accepted.[3] Sho-sa Dillahunty was the top player of the Fifth Sun Zhang's soccer team, which won the match 5 to 3 after a penalty shootout.[3]

When Dillahunty discovered that the survivors from the Fourth An Ting Legion had appeared led by Daitama Muraki, he made a few disparaging remarks to Muraki. That lead to an honor duel in which Muraki thoroughly humiliated Dillahunty before eviscerating him.[4]
