The Mydron Corporation was a notable manufacturer of Autocannons with their products manufactured across the Inner Sphere. Though the company would cease to exist after the Amaris Civil War, General Motors would revive the brand as its Mydron Weapon Systems heavy weapons division in 3048.[1]

History

Founded in the Federated Suns prior to 2475, the Mydron Corporation was a manufacturer of autocannons during the Age of War. The fortunes of the company would improve immesurable with the development of the Federated Suns' second exclusive BattleMech the HMH-3D Hammerhands, with a Mydron Model B mounted in each the 'Mech's primary weapon and thus the primary weapon of the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns became the BattleMech of the Federated Suns shortly after its debut. With such wide usage and assisted by Captain Scott "Napa" Parker's use of the Hammerhands in several highly publized raids against the Draconis Combine and Capellan Confederation, even after the Hammerhands was overshadowed by the Terran Hegemony's successor design the Warhammer, the Mydron autocannons growing prestige persisted as the Federated Suns' iconic fascination with autocannon began.[2][3]

The success of Mydron's autocannons, and due to the marketing efforts of Scott Parker following his retirement and hiring by Mydron, would attract the attention of the other Great Houses who became key customers for the company. The most notable of these was the Terran Hegemony, eventually leading the Mydron Corporation to relocate its headquarters and many of its factories within the borders of the Hegemony.[2][3] During the Star League era, the company was one of the most notable non-Terra-based manufacturers of the LB 10-X Autocannon developed during the Reunification War for export to the other Great Houses and even to the Periphery.[4]

While the relocation of the majority of its facilities to the Terran Hegemony would benefit the Mydron Corporation for centuries, it would place them on the frontlines during the Amaris Civil War and deaththroes of the Star League, resulting in the company's destruction.[2] [3] The Mydron name however would persist, with former licensees continuing to manufacture the company's autocannons through the Succession War era. Following the Federated Suns megacorporation General Motors' purchase of two heavy weapons producers in 3048, GM would revive the name as it created the Mydron Weapon Systems division to build heavy weapons for the FedSuns, primarily the autocannons that made Mydron famous.[1]
