Description
The Baleena was a submarine designed for passenger and cargo service.
History
The Baleena was designed by Bluefin Technologies after it received a influx of cash after its stocks went public on Donegal Stock Exchange 2540. Bluefin designed the vehicle to serve as a submersible transport vessel with passenger capacities for industries which operate in the deep oceans.[1][2]
A number of these ships have been converted for use as luxury vessels, such as underwater luxury liners or as private family vehicles for the ultra-rich. These sales have been to both House Steiner and House Marik corporations. Many others are used by corporations and tour companies.[1][2]
Weapons and Equipment
The Baleena is equipped principally as a ferry with a 20 passenger capacity. Its cargo capacity has been divided into two: one having a 40-ton [cargo bay]] capacity for containers, with two doors; and a small separate three-ton capacity cargo bay with access from a rear-mounted door.[1][2]
The ship also comes with a small light vehicle bay, with a 50-ton capacity. The bay has a door mounted in front of the ship. This bay can be used to transport seagoing or dry land vehicles. Several of the Baleenas in use on Tharkad use this bay to contain a submarine or surface ship to augment exploration of the planet's ice caps.[1][2]
The Baleena is protected by 1.5 tons of BAR 2 rated commercial armor.[1][2]
The vehicle is equipped with the following features. It has a submersible chassis and controls modification, 20 passenger seats, two steerage passenger cabins, two mounted searchlights (which are both mounted in the bow), and three lifeboats.[1][2]
Notes
- As of this writing, the Baleena has no published record sheets as of this time. The vehicle's image was reused for the Koryu Submarine in Historical Turning Points: Galtor.
Variants
- At this time there are no known variants of the Baleena, though a IIC-style redesign exists (Baleena IIC).
