Description
The Confederate Class DropShip was once the standard Lance transport of the SLDF. Resembling a scaled down Union, it employs advanced technology such as Endo Steel internal structure and Ferro-Fibrous armor and is significantly more sophisticated than the ancient Leopard Class. These advanced technologies, along with a complex but exceedingly compact drive system, rendered the design extinct in the Inner Sphere during technological decline of the Succession Wars.
The Confederate is well-known for its versatility, as the bays that are nominally meant to launch and house Aerospace Fighters can hold any variety of alternate cargo. This usually comes in the form of an additional two BattleMechs.
Armament
With a loadout of nine Thunderbolt DT Large Lasers and 12 Hammon Medium Lasers, the Confederate lacks the diverse armament and punch of the Leopard Class DropShip. However, its 46 tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor offer far superior protection, and the nature of its weapons ensures that ammunition is never an issue. This, coupled with the Confederate's efficient use of fuel, makes it a very self-sufficient vehicle capable of extended independent operations.

Variants
A large number of Confederates were taken by the SLDF on Operation Exodus, and the majority were mothballed upon arriving in the Pentagon Worlds. A number of these were reactivated to bolster the transport abilities of the Clans taking part in Operation Revival, with one Aerospace Fighter bay configured to store an OmniMech and the other used for increased cargo capacity. Beyond this modification to allow the Confederate to carry a complete Star instead of a Lance, the weaponry and armor are unchanged.
