Hidechi Welles was the MechWarrior from the Republic of the Sphere that sided with the Dragon's Fury during the Dark Age.

History

Born from a combination of Davion and Rasalhaguian ancestry, Hidechi Welles was a Republic of the Sphere citizen that finally sided with Katana Tormark.[1]

He was assigned along his unit to capture the vital spaceport city on Gehenna Isle, on Lindon's Folly in Styx's.[2] Along one of his lancemates piloting a Centurion, they found two Republic of the Sphere Mechs, a Wasp and a Panther, and though his subordinate in the Centurion wanted to kill both, he did not allow and bowed as a salute, being corresponded by the Panther pillot (Charisse Perry), and allows both of them to leave unharmed.[3]

By the 18th, his forces pushed again the defensive line the RoS was defending. A full company of 'Mechs and tanks, plus maybe another company of supporting foot troopers—armored and otherwise—suddenly converged on RoS position. This time along a Cougar, he finds the same Panther trying to escape by a fighting withdrawal, and though she was able to cripple a couple DCMS hovers and drive back some Drac Toads, he allows again her to escape. For the rest of the battle he fought the RoS forces like a pro, even taking a fair chunk out of Lieutenant McCabe's Legionnaire.[4]

On the 25th of October his full lance composed by the Ghost, the Cougar and two Centurions alone finds again the same Panter, and he allowed him to retreat.[2]

He writes a haiku

Lone Ghost stalks Panther.
Three times a kindred life spared.
Ronin awaits word.

, which clearly describes his encounters with the Panther in a secure chat to locate him/her.[5]

By the 15 November 3135, they find in themselves in a secure chat, where he explains her that he considers himself a Samurai, and that Bushido orders him to fight on even battles not against foes that are clearly under inferiority.[6]

Unknbenoknst to him, ISF was investigating his behavior as a warrior, same as he was doing with other five Mechwarriors coming from Katana's Dragon's Fury.[3]
