Description

The League-Class Destroyer was first WarShip construction by the Free Worlds League in 2368.[2] First of the League would be launched just before break out of the Age of War from SelaSys Yards in orbit of Loyalty. The ship's assembly would require having its components due to politics from across League space.

These early WarShips would become the mainstay of the League's Navy, where it was employed in various tasks from antipiracy patrols to escorting the League's Atreus-Class Battleships. These ships would serve well into Star League Era. However, the Class would dwindle too few ships left in commission, some ships mothballed would be allegedly stolen and used by pirates.

In last century of the Star League Era, armies of the all the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere would grow with instability of the Star League itself. A second batch of the League-Class Destroyers would be produced to help shore up the League's navy with its improved weaponry and enhanced capabilities. However, efforts to make the vessel show piece of technology by Captain-General Ewan Marik’s urging would in later years leading into the Succession Wars, the Class would end up being destroyed due to conflict.[3]

Weapons and Capacities

The design had a balance of then new technologies which allowed it persevere past the space primitive technology era. Hold out from the earlier era of space travel is presence of pair of DropShuttle Bays, allowing earlier and small DropShuttles to dock with the League. Fortunately, engineers were able to include newer innovation such as a DropShip collar and presence of Fighter Bay which would enhance protection of ship itself and its mobile parasite ships.

The ship is carries balance of capital weaponry for long-range and close-in combat. The main armaments of the League include number of Naval Autocannons and long reach Naval Lasers. The ship's bow houses pair Class-20 Autocannons, array of Large Lasers and Small Lasers for conventional and point defense. Each of the ship's forward and aft sides mount single Class-10 Naval Autocannon, bundled Naval Laser 45 & 35 for Capital Ship threats, while six mall lasers acts in point defense role. The ship's broadside carries single large Class-40 Naval Autocannon, with usual 4 Large Lasers and 6 Small Lasers. The ship's aft is armed with paired up Class-20 & 10 Naval Autocannons, while conventional weapons include the same number Large and Small Lasers.

The ship's armor protection included 527 tons of Standard Armor.[4]

  • Block II
Produced at the end of the Star League Era in 2768, the Block II is an updated version of the original design. The three surviving Block I vessels were used as test beds for what would be a the new-build ships of Block II variant. Noticeable differences from the earlier Block Is, is its main batteries. The Naval Autocannons were exchanged for Naval Gauss Rifles. With pair of Medium Class Naval Gauss Rifles mounted in place of NAC/20s in the bow and single rifle in the in Aft. The broadside autocannons are exchanged for a single Heavy Class Naval Gauss Rifle. The forward and aft side arcs autocannons are swapped out for a Light Class Naval Gauss Rifle. These weapons power and maintenance demands of these powerful weapons would become a large problems League's efforts to keep these ships operational in Succession Wars Era. Other improvements would include exchanging the ship's standard armor for same tonnage of Improved Ferro-Aluminum Armor. DropShuttle Bays would be deleted and make room for additional room for new weapons and allow for the ship carry 57 marines and additional DropShip Collar. BV(2.0)=53,315

Named Vessels

  • FWLS Palatine
Notable for being the last of the Block I to remain in commission with the League.[6]
  • FWLS Albert Marik
A Block I vessel, the Albert was noted for its loss in the incident in 2763 with SLDF's 7th Fleet in the Calloway VI star system. The ship was lost in first action of the incident, which would cause ripples of emotional dismay throughout the League. Causing resurgence of loyalty to sovereignty of the Free Worlds League.[7]

Notes

The Record Sheets for both the primary and variant of the League-Class Destroyers are solely found in Field Report 2765. As of this writing, the Master Unit List entry for the League does not include the ship's battle value nor any information on Block II variant listed in this article.[8]
