The Trojan is a militarized refit version of the Danais class, developed by disgruntled Periphery citizens in the face of Star League oppression. The Danais in turn is a small spheroid DropShip design which was originally conceived as an unarmed light cargo ship during the Star League era, one of the few ship classes allowed to be produced in Periphery states by the Star League. Consequently, although often used in a military role, the Trojan is built to civilian (as opposed to military) specs.

Although it is frequently treated as a distinct ship class, the Trojan is arguably just a refit variant of the Danais. No new ships are built directly to Trojan specifications, and it is even questionable if there is a "standard" configuration for a Trojan being being a converted and up-gunned Danais.

Description

In the Taurian Concordat, many unarmed Danais vessels were converted into Trojan blockade runners, armed with weaponry for smuggling and self-defense. The cargo and passenger capacity was slightly reduced to accommodate these changes.

After the fall of the Star League, many more of the Danais were converted into Trojans due to the perils of the Succession Wars. The design remained active for centuries and was still in service in the Jihad era, where many of the ships have kept the lines of communication alive between worlds cut off when the HPG grid was disrupted during the conflict. Some of these ships were also used to smuggle cargo in and out of the Word of Blake's Protectorate.[2]

Armament

Hidden behind blowout panels, the Trojan is typically armed with the following weaponry:

Nose

Front Right/Left

  • Two LRM-20s, one Large Laser, and two Medium Lasers on each side.

Aft Left/Right

  • Two Medium Lasers

Aft

  • Two Medium Lasers

Cargo & Capacities

The Trojan has six passenger cabins, with a 1,550 ton cargo bay. The bay has two access doors on its sides. The ship also has a Small Craft bay with room for two craft with two doors.

The ship is protected by 23 tons of standard armor and has 15 tons LRM Ammunition for its launchers.

Individual Vessels

Variants

Given its nature as a refit, and that the configuration discussed above is merely considered "typical", it would seem that the Trojan moniker is applied to many different variations of armed Danais vessels, to the point where no two Trojans might be alike.
