The Eighth Rasalhague Regulars was a light BattleMech regiment stationed on Rasalhague serving as the personal unit of the region's Warlord.[1]

History[edit]

The Eighth was raised at some point prior to 2765. In a Star League Defense Force assessment, the Eighth was noted as being one of the district's units kept virtually under house arrest when not on duty.[2]

First and Second Succession Wars[edit]

By the outbreak of the First Succession War, the Eighth was a heavy unit stationed on Trondheim which remained its homeworld throughout the conflict. The war saw the regiment reduced to just under a third of its authorized strength.[3] When the Second Succession War erupted in 2830, the Eighth had been transferred to Nykvarn and was operating at less than two-thirds of its paper strength. The war saw the unit mauled further; when the conflict ended in 2864, the Eighth, now posted to conquered Basiliano, was down to a third of its authorized numbers.[4]

Third Succession War[edit]

During the last years of the Third Succession War, the Eighth had acquired the informal nickname of "Ricol's Roughnecks" due to their frequent service in augmenting Duke Hassid Ricol's private forces whenever the latter were insufficient to achieve the Duke's objectives. In their rare instances of failure, the Eighth were known to utilize dishonorable tactics and cause wanton collateral damage.[5]

In 3025, the unit was stationed on Rasalhague.[6]

Ronin War[edit]

The Regulars were stationed on Rasalhague when the Free Rasalhague Republic was formed. In 3034, they were ordered to arrest Marcus Kurita. They did not do so, and in fact attacked the Internal Security Force unit that had taken Marcus into custody. They, along with the Twelfth Sun Zhang Academy Cadre, staged a fighting retreat to DropShips located at Rasalhague's main spaceport. Many of the Eighth's warriors were able to escape to Predlitz, but several companies were left behind. The First Tyr regiment broke these elements with their furious assault on the spaceport.[7]

On Predlitz, the First Tyr Regiment's assault 'Mechs tore through the light 'Mechs of the Eighth, having followed from Rasalhague. The Eighth was eventually destroyed by a combined force consisting of the First Tyr and the Second Sword of Light.[8]
