Planetary History[edit]

Early History[edit]

When Shiro Kurita launched his invasion of the Principality of Rasalhague in an attempt to annex the Principality and add it to the Draconis Combine during the 2330s and 2340s the brutalities inflicted by the Combine forces were such that many of the survivors fled from the Principality. In some instances, survivors from one or more Principality worlds banded together to found new colonies. Craftsmen and artists from both Predlitz and Kufstein joined with technicians from St. John and engineers from New Bergen to settle the worlds of Bensinger, Steelton, and Toland. All three worlds were on the outer reaches of settled human space, cold and icy worlds that would subsequently be courted by the growing Rim Worlds Republic.[2]

In October 2529, Welkens Nordd was born on Predlitz.[citation needed]

The Draconis Combine's prison camp "Camp 97" was located on Predlitz's moon until the twenty-seventh century. Later on, a thriving mining colony was established on the moon by Poles who named it "Krakau" after the ancient earth Polish city Kraków, with capital city Neuwarschau (New Warshaw, from the Polish capital city of Warsaw). Neuwarschau was bombed with nuclear weapons during the First Succession War, bringing an end to the commercial operations there. The Combine resumed mining operations on a smaller scale after the war and built an aerospace base to protect the installation.[33]

Ronin War[edit]

Tai-shu Marcus Kurita refused to accept the establishment of the Free Rasalhague Republic in March 3034 and went rogue, traveling to the Predlitz system along with the Eighth Rasalhague Regulars and Twelfth Sun Zhang Academy Cadre because it was very pro-Combine.[34] The First Tyr pursued them to Predlitz, followed by the Second Sword of Light three weeks later, who assaulted the small militia force stationed at the mining bases of the planet's moon Krakau and established a base of operations there.[32]

Kurita was assassinated shortly after arriving on Predlitz by Ninyu Kerai Indrahar,[35] but his ronin forces continued their ferocious stand and at one point broke through the First Tyr line, damaging the Second Sword of Light's DropShip Osaka. Though there may have been an opportunity to end the battle, Christian Månsdottir chose to pull his Tyr forces back and defend his allies.[32] This prolonged the fighting for another month, until a decisive pincer maneuver on August 5 forced the remaining ronin to surrender.[36]

About the time the entirety of the First Tyr shipped out for other assignments, it was discovered that the Eighth Regulars' commander Sho-sho Sven Johannsen was able to retreat to Krakau using a hidden DropShip and met up with the remnants of the unit. The newly formed Second Drakøns had been brought in to relieve the First Tyr and were rerouted to the moon to confront them, suffering heavy casualties in the process.[37] The battle came to a head in the tunnels of a mining colony, when Johannsen was stopped just short of blowing the mine's main fusion reactor by Löjtnant Kristof Martens of the Drakøns. After destroying the ronin units on Krakau, the Second Drakøns spent the rest of the war on Predlitz engaged in mop up operations.[36]

Operation REVIVAL[edit]

Predlitz was invaded in September 3050 by Clan Ghost Bear as a part of Operation REVIVAL, the Clan invasion of the Inner Sphere. The 332nd Assault Cluster attacked Predlitz with two Trinaries, the 469th Assault and 2133rd Striker Trinaries. The defenders on Predlitz consisted of the Seventeenth, Twentieth and Thirty-first Rasalhagian Free Divisions, a grand total of two armor regiments and a battalion of BattleMechs. The two Ghost Bear Trinaries represented an overwhelming force, but the Free Divisions attempted to fight a mobile defense, moving swiftly between supply caches. In the end though each Free Division was forced to make its own stand and was swiftly overwhelmed, with the first two falling at Warm Line and Durengo. The final blow came near a region of cliffs known as Billy's Tears. The 2133rd Striker Trinary located a supply cache that none of the Free Divisions had used by that point, and staged an ambush that crushed the last Free Division forces as they attempted to get at their supplies.[38]

In 3062, Clan Hell's Horses raided Predlitz, although exact extend of damage is unknown.[citation needed]
