History[edit]

Richard Markson was the son of the commander that led the survivors of the Twelfth Lyran Regulars into mercenary service in 2928, taking over command of the Markson's Marauders at some point during the final decades of the Third Succession War.[1]

At some point Richard would become friends with fellow mercenaries Nikolai Mason and Ryana Campbell of Chloe's Cavaliers. Upon learning of Nikolai's death in 3015, Markson would contact Nikolai's son and successor on Brookeland to offer his condolences and to provide some helpful pointers, including the existence of smaller scale contract options outside the purview of the ComStar-backed Mercenary Review Board, a useful sideline for Lance-sized commands like the Cavaliers but one an "unknown" like Jake Mason could not access. After Jake successfully completed a number of contracts to prove he indeed had what it took without his father around, Richard Markson introduced the young MechWarrior to the system of mercenary Cantinas where such additional sources of work could be found.[2]

As of 3025 Richard Markson and his regiment had the plum assignment assisting in the defense of the Federated Suns capital world of New Avalon, yet ComStar rated the unit's financial situation was poor ahead of the contract expiring on January 3026.[3] Following the conclusion of this contract in the wake of the Fourth Succession War, Markson accepted a pirate hunting contract on the backwater world of Estuan close to the Pirates Haven Cluster, resigned to his unit becoming the next Wilson's Hussars. Instead, the Marauders would discover their niche, the unit's preference for light 'Mechs ensuring they could intercept and fend off the pirates, the Marauders becoming highly adept at hunting down and tracking the pirates to their bases, wiping them out for the bounties.[1]

At some point prior to 3049 during this revival, Richard Markson would pass command of Markson's Marauders to his son Richard "Little Dick” Markson II.[4]
