Abdoun Ricol was a thirty-second-century mercenary and warlord of Draconis Combine origin.

History[edit]

Details of Ricol's early life are sketchy, but he appears to have been born into a Clan's laborer caste from a Combine family that had fallen on hard times. The young Abdoun was raised on stories of his supposed ancestors' glories as members of the Black Dragon Society and its ruling Council of Gems before the family was disenfranchised by both House Kurita and the Clans after the Second Combine-Dominion War. Harboring a burning desire to punish his family's foes and reclaim his birthright, Abdoun supposedly earned MechWarrior status twice over with both the Rasalhague Dominion and Clan Hell's Horses, serving as a bondsman in between.[2][1]

Following the events of Gray Monday in 3132, Black Dragon Society members aided Abdoun in his desertion from the Dominion military and informed him that he was indeed descended from their hallowed leader, Duke Hassid Ricol or "Ruby". Abdoun adopted both the Ricol surname and Hassid Ricol's title of the Red Hunter, subsequently carving out a fearsome reputation as a MechWarrior and bounty hunter in the conflict-ridden regions that arose from the deteriorating Republic of the Sphere. His preferred targets during this time tended to hail from House Kurita, Clan Nova Cat, or the Spirit Cats, leading to speculation that he was seeking to aid his Black Dragon benefactors by killing their enemies. Ricol also assembled around him a coterie of some of the best and most ruthless killers of the Inner Sphere, including several Bannson's Raiders alumni, who followed their leader when Ricol departed for new warzones.[2][1]

Ricol amassed a varied list of campaigns and foes during the late 3130s and 3140s. He battled the Spirit Cats on Marik in 3137 and Clan Wolf on Stewart the following year, then appeared in the Draconis Reach engaging Combine forces. During the Nova Cat Rebellion Ricol executed headhunting attacks against leaders on both sides, after which he fought against the Combine invasion of the Federated Suns. When the Combine emerged victorious, the Red Hunter simply turned his attention to the Clans once more, raiding Wolf Empire and Jade Falcon targets.[2][1]

Ricol later appeared in the Barrens where the Black Dragon remnants were situated. Abetting attacks by the Oberon Confederation and Von Strang's World on Clan Hell's Horses allies, the Republic of the Barrens and Star's End, Ricol hoped to thin Horses' garrisons in their Occupation Zone. The gambit failed as the Horses proved more focused on the Battle of Terra and the new ilClan's ascension, but their response aided Ricol by enabling him to mount a series of raids across the Horse OZ's coreward frontier. His ultimate goal is believed to be the reclamation of his ancestral holding, the Duchy of Rodigo.[1]

Some time after 3138, Ricol managed to bring the mercenary unit The Scourge under his control. When it's CO, Colonel Stephen Wallace, was killed in combat by the Nova Cats, the unit's new commander, Colonel Gerhard Stahl, appealed to him for assistance in keeping the unit from fracturing. The messy deaths of several others cemented Stahl's claim as commander. The Scourge sends supplies to Ricol's personal forces while he also draws recruits from them directly.[3]

Ricol piloted a modified MAD-7S Marauder named Akaryōshi.[2]
