Description

The Bellerophon was a failed prototype BattleMech, designed to be a companion design to the larger Mackie. Designed during infancy BattleMech Technology, Defiance Industries used what later was known as Primitive Technology to create the Bellerophon. It was envisioned that design would complement the Mackie with its higher speed and having nearly as much armor as its companion. It technology based on the original Mackie prototype, design inherited a host of design flaws from it. These included having trouble with its balance. Its weapon arrangement would amplify its balance problems further despite improvements to its gyro system. After four prototypes were produced, the program was cancelled due to HAF lack of interest in the design.[2]

Armament & Capacities

The design incorporated powerful heavy lasers with short-range missile launch which it would use provide escort to the Mackie. However, the two large lasers mount in the right arm and stubby 4-Tube SRM launch found in the left would prove to be problem for sake of being able keep design balance while it was maneuvering. The Bellerophon's 14 heat sinks are not enough to offset any heat spikes should the MechWarrior design to fire all his weapons at once or fire the two large lasers in tandem.

Aside from having an Primitive Cockpit, the Bellerphon's better qualities was its speed which it gained from its 290 Rated Primitive Fusion Engine. This allowed the design to outpace the Mackie at 60 kph, if its unbalancing didn't cause it tumble over. The Bellerophon's hull is protected by 11.5 tons worth of Primitive Armor.[3]
