The HeavyHell Raisers were formed by Manu Sharma after he left the CCAF. His old unit was ignored and short-changed, and eventually absorbed by the CCAF after troubles during Operation Guerrero. He promoted himself to Major and formed a new unit with other mercenaries. All members shared a deep hatred of House Liao and the CCAF.[1]

History[edit]

Jihad[edit]

In 3068 the Word of Blake tried to bring Wasat into the Protectorate. The 3rd Division invaded the planet with the support of Raymond's Armored Cavalry and the HeavyHell Raisers. The Cavalry was destroyed by the defending Blackhearts mercenary regiment. The defending force waged a two-year guerrilla campaign. Eventually the Word had had enough, and nuked the planet; in the process, the Hell Raisers tried to save as many civilians as possible. The mercenaries relocated to Irian to protect the viable factories of IrTech.[2] They relieved the Redfield Renegades mercenary unit.[3]

Due to their employment with the Word of Blake, the HeavyHell Raisers were placed on the Mercenary Review and Bonding Commission's Wanted lists, though the command hadn't committed any of the atrocities credited to other Word of Blake mercenary commands.[2]

In December 3075 a successful rebel uprising seized control of Irian. The plan evidently involved - or had even been organized by - IrTech, and involved conspirators and rebels within the IrTech headquarters, the Protectorate Militia, IrTech corporate security and the local media as well as the existing rebel forces. At a prearranged time the existing rebel movement launched probing attacks against the various headquarters and major garrisons of the Protectorate Militia. As those probing attacks were launched, IrTech corporate security forces seized and locked down all of the local automated defenses and key facilities. A large rebel attack was then launched near the Kirin River while the local and planetary media stations all began broadcasting messages inciting an uprising, messages which also activated rebel cells within the Protectorate Militia.[4]

Those rebel cells included a significant contingent from the HeavyHell Raisers, who were reinforced with mercenaries slipped onto Irian by IrTech in secret, and who worked with the HeavyHell Raisers to secure the Irian BattleMech Works; the battle took place on the 8th of December, and saw the rebel HeavyHell Raisers having to go into combat with two companies of their comrades who had remained loyal to the Blakist regime.[5]

The only Protectorate Militia formation to remain able to coordinate a defense was the Irian Protectorate Militia (the three of them 1st, 2nd and 3rd) which fought for three days before retreating offworld, giving the outgoing regime time to launch a scorched-earth retreat, a retreat that saw nuclear devices used to destroy a number of industrial complexes.[4] One of those facilities destroyed by the Blakists was the same Irian BattleMech Works plant the HeavyHell Raisers had helped seize.[5]

The preponderance of Assault BattleMechs in the command allows them to inflict heavy damage, which frequently compensated for any gaps in training.[1]

Support[edit]

They use a modified Overlord-class DropShip, the Frances, to transport the entire unit and their expert techs can completely handle the daily maintenance tasks.[1]
