Located near Monistrol and Hildaman, the formerly Draconis Combine world of Tangerz was one of the many to vanish from the maps during the early Succession Wars[6][7], eventually to become Mayadi, one of The Five hidden worlds maintained by ComStar and the Word of Blake.

History

A very dry planet, Tangerz was minor and insignificant world only capable of supporting a few hundred thousand people for much of its existence. This began to change during the Good Years of the Star League era when the inhabitants of Tangerz built a thriving economy based on entertainment and tourism. Thanks to imported food and water, the planets population grew to over 250 million permanent residents with an equal volume of tourists. Tangerz fame and popularity grew so much that the Star League had begun to offer terraforming technology upon the cusp of the Amaris Coup. The crisis shattered the planet's tourist industry as people grew increasing scared for the Star League's future, slashing cash flow and negatively effecting the quality of entertainment offered, compounding the issue. [13]

Tangerz's seeming deathnell occurred during the First Succession War, the tourist industry bottoming out completely along with the decline of the terraforming technologies. Like many Star League era worlds dependent upon the interstellar trade to supply even its most basic necessities, millions of Tangerz's population died from thirst and starvation, with millions more dying from riots fighting for what meager resources that remained. With the planet incapable of supporting even a third of Star League era population, the planet was rapidly and totally vacated, becoming one of the hundreds of dead systems during the Succession Wars era. This made Tangerz perfect for the newly formed ComStar who promptly exercised the world from nav charts, transforming it into Mayadi. While only marginally habitable, ComStar apparently envisioned only a small and secret base manned by a staff of only few hundred thousand, and well within the depopulated planet's abilities once its ecosystems were allowed to recover. [13]

Located near the ruins of Tangrez's capital of Jarkarta, ComStar's base of operations on Mayadi suffered a catastrophic disaster sometime during the 2900's when a deadly bioplague was accidentally released that killed all organisms on the planet with cell membranes. The plague was still virulent a century later when a pirate band visited the dead system in 3046 and were killed after stumbling upon the ComStar facilities. Some evidence exists that the Word of Blake's Manei Domini visited Mayadi in the lead-up to the Jihad specifically to secure bio weapons from the facilities there, weapons such as those used against Alarion and Galax. After Jardine, Mayadi was the second Hidden world discovered, though by 3095 only a single party had made a visit to the surface, a Republic of the Sphere scouting force. Confirming the world was dead and the still present danger of the plague, the Republic laid claim to the world and refused access to all parties, including a Interstellar Expeditions team hoping to provide independent corroboration of the Republic's findings.[13]
