Description

Constructed during the Succession Wars by the Lyran Commonwealth, the Meabh Class Heavy Cruiser was designed as naval escort and sea patrol replacement for SLDF era Ocean based blue water naval cruiser. Initially designed at the urging of various social generals to protect House Steiner's undersea command posts. The ships were finally approved for construction in 2807, and production continued until the 2870s.

Though the ships performed well and were highly praised, the design was quickly discarded due to LCAF's decision to hand off responsibility for naval forces to local planetary authorities in 2932. In addition, the undersea complexes that the ship was designed to protect had become poorer and rarer. The newer and cheaper naval vessels became available by late 2950s, Neptune Submarine and carbon copies of the ships.

Armament

The ships main weaponry are six particle projector cannons, with pair in each in two turrets with single large laser. These ships also mount a dozen medium lasers aligned in pairs fore right & left and aft left and right with single autocannon five in each arch. The autocannon has sixteen tons of ammunition.

For underwater defense, the ship mounts single of Long Range Torpedo Ten (tube) launcher fore and aft with ten tons of ammunition. The ship also has two Short Range Torpedo six tube launchers split between fore and aft arcs with over twelve tons of ammunition.

The ship utilizes a basic fire control system to coordinate the ships weaponry.

Cargo

Ship has cargo capacity of 968 tons with doors in aft right and aft left.

Notes

The design features communication equipment, MASH unit, six search lights (mounted front/sides/aft/turrets one & two), helipad, two field kitchens, fourteen lifeboats, four light vehicle bays for VTOLs, twenty crew quarters, and part of cargo capacity is frequently converted to liquid (fuel) for use for the VTOLs and to refrigerate (food) for the crew and passengers.

Notable Ships of the Class

  • LCS Sarah Steiner and LCS Stadt Fischingen were the last of Meabh Class in LCAF. These ships served on Czarvowo, with smaller local built Cliona Class frigates, Cliona, Tethya, and Axinella. While Sarah Steiner was scrapped with two of frigates. Stadt Fischingen and the Cliona converted into museums ships. The ships however fell to environmental terrorist whom stole the ships. Both vessel were mysteriously sunk far from shore, its unclear if terrorist had done this on purpose in protest of the underwater complex on world. As of 3070, the Stadt Fischingen wreck was discovered and private investors have been making plans raise the ship cruiser to make it again into museum.
