Formed by former students of the Blackjack School of Conflict, the One-Eyed Jacks mercenary unit ultimately became the new Eleventh Donegal Guards in the wake of the Word of Blake Jihad.

History

The unit was formed in 3062 by former students of the Blackjack School of Conflict. They raided the Clan Jade Falcon-held world of Sudeten. After the assault, they refilled their shattered ranks. The unit was hired by Caesar Steiner and has since been stationed on Giausar against a Marik incursion.

In 3068, an assault force consisting of the 20th Marik Militia and either the First or Second Knights of the Inner Sphere, backed by a mercenary force (Cumberland's Missiliers among them[1]) attacked Giausar. The invaders wiped out the two companies of the Wilde Turkeys mercenary command and the battalion-sized conventional militia. Pico's Pathfinder (scouts for the Marik forces) were shattered by The One Eyed Jacks. Surrounded and outgunned, the Jacks had to withdraw, with only two of their DropShips making it through the League space cordon.[2][3][4][5]

In late 3068 the Jacks were sent to Senftenberg to recover from their combat on Giausar.[4]

Honoring the mercenary unit's service to the Lyran realm and the losses it suffered during Operation BROKEN FIST, the mercenaries accepted the invitation to become an LAAF line-unit under the name of the Blackjacks. The unit was assigned to defend Dixie.[6]

Originally assigned to the Lyran's generalised "irregular" forces during the Jihad, [6] after that conflict's conclusion the LAAF high command chose to standardise the unit as an LCT, renaming it as the new Eleventh Dongeal Guards. [7]
