The Dixie system was the location of at least one habitable world, Dixie I, and as of June 3152 was located in the Lyran Commonwealth.[2]

System Description[edit]

Dixie is located close to the Altoona and Hornir's Keep systems[3][4] and consists of a class M9V primary orbited by at least one planet.[1]

System History[edit]

The Dixie system was colonized during the First Exodus from Terra or shortly after.[5]

Dixie I - more commonly referred to as Dixie - is the first planet in the system.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

Early History[edit]

In 2237 Dixie was the last identified location within the Inner Sphere of the group of colonists originally designated as Uhuru Settlement Group Gamma. Uhuru Settlement Group Gamma was a predominantly Muslim group from the North Africa region of Terra intended to be one of a number of groups colonizing the Uhuru system, but on receiving word of the massacre of thousands of civilians on Summit during the Outer Reaches Rebellion, the members of the settlement group had persuaded their JumpShip crews to join them in fleeing the Inner Sphere and Terran Alliance oppression. Renaming themselves the Axumite Settlement Group, this group of some one hundred and fifty thousand colonists traded Uhuru-specific seedstocks and items for rations and spare parts before leaving the Uhuru system; when Terran Alliance officials spotted the Axumite Settlement Group at Dixie, they launched an effort to intercept the runaway colonists and reclaim their expensive terraforming equipment. This effort was unsuccessful and the Axumite Settlement Group departed for the anti-spinward region of the Deep Periphery, eventually founding the nation known as the Axumite Providence.[6]

The Age of War[edit]

In 2427, the Lyran Commonwealth launched another campaign against the Free Worlds League, beginning with landing troops on Bolan. The Lyran forces seized Bolan and dug in, while further attacks captured the League worlds of Dixie and Kamenz, leading the Free Worlds League Parliament to disband the War Powers Act and install Terrence Marik as Captain-General in response.[8]

Star League Era[edit]

During the Star League era a Castle Brian was established on Dixie; the subsequent discovery of the existence of this facility was enough to invite an invasion during the Succession Wars.[1]

First Succession War[edit]

Dixie was one of a number of Lyran Commonwealth captured by the Free Worlds League between 2786 and 2790, as the Lyran Commonwealth Armed Forces began to crack under the pressure of continuing efforts to annex the Bolan Thumb while also attempting to maintain a defensive posture against both the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery and the Free Worlds League Military.[17]

Third Succession War[edit]

In 3016, Ripper's Reavers participated in a raid of Dixie along with elements of Wolf's Dragoons. When the Dragoons were threatened by the sudden appearance of an assault company of Lyrans, the Reavers moved and intercepted the assault company in a no-holds barred battle in which the unit prevented the raiding force from failing its mission and kept the Dragoons from being flanked. The Reavers lost half of number in the course of the brutal fight with the assault company, which earned them the respect of Colonel Jaime Wolf. Colonel Wolf noted the company's approach to battle was like "Rolling Thunder". The nickname caught on quickly and the unit was later officially named Rolling Thunder. The raid itself was deemed a success.[54] It was during this raid or another one in 3016 where Colonel Mary Terrell, commander of Zeta Battalion died at the controls of her Marauder II.[25]

The Jihad[edit]

For most of the Jihad, Dixie served as a Lyran Alliance Armed Forces storage depot and launching point for raids into the Free Worlds League.[1] Following the invasion of the Free Worlds League by the Skye and Bolan Provinces of the Lyran Alliance in what was termed Operation ÜBERSCHATTEN, Marshall Jeremy Brett took command of the local FWLM and launched a counteroffensive under the name Operation BROKEN FIST. BROKEN FIST went beyond simply attempting to recapture worlds that the Lyrans had seized, striking into Lyran space at numerous worlds. Dixie was one of the worlds hit and was overrun by the League forces on the 10th of September 3068.[44]

Dixie saw another battalion of the Knights of the Inner Sphere assault the world on 10 September 3068. The Knights faced the Furillo BPM in the Junket Wastes and after ten days of constant skirmishing, the elite Marik warriors retreated.[55]

By the end of the Jihad, the LAAF had begun repairing the Castle Brian located on Dixie, despite it having been picked clean long before.[1]

Military Deployment[edit]

3079[edit]

- The unit was operating at 40% strength, with 70% of their equipment featuring upgraded technology.

Geography[edit]

Dixie has two continents named North and South.[1]

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • New Wichita: the planetary capital city located on North[1]
  • Junket Wastes: Site of the battle between the Knights of the Inner Sphere and the Furillo BPM during the JIhad.[55]
