History
All members of the training battalion have either attained the rank of Subaltern or are academy staff. Academy staff members are required to hold a commission in the AFFS, either active duty or retired.[1]
Civil War
The Sakhara Academy training battalion wasn't involved in the FedCom Civil War.[2]
Jihad
The Sakhara Academy Training Battalion violated orders and accompanied the 2nd Robinson Rangers in to Draconis Combine space, assaulting Benjamin.[3] As a result, the Academy's combat charter was revoked by Tancred Sandoval. It was only in 3079 that the unit was re-established.[4]
Marshal Jon Davion, a graduate of the Sakhara Academy, was the driving force behind the Academy receiving it's charter. To reflect the changing times, the training battalion added officer training for conventional armor, battle armor, and AeroSpace units. In addition the Academy created a training camp for enlisted armor and infantry soldiers. These trainees are commanded by cadets from the Sakhara Academy when in the field, and serve as infantrymen and armor crews. After a year in the Academy's enlisted training battalion, these soldiers are promoted to a front line unit with the rank of Corporal. The program has worked so well that the Goshen War College Training Battalion was authorized to copy the program.[5]
Dark Age
During the Draconis Combine invasion of the Draconis March, the 7th Ghost regiment landed on Sakhara V. They faced the Sakhara Academy battalion and lost all their infantry and a third of their 'Mech forces. After the Ghost's commander died of a heart attack, the Sakhara Academy faced a new commander who used VTOLs to flank them. The green Academy battalion members were routed, with only a company able to withdraw to the Academy grounds. The next day, that company was destroyed.[6]
Officers
As of 3050 to 3067 the commanding officer was Kommandant later Colonel Elkin Odds.[7][8][1][9]
As of 3085 the commanding officer is Major General Carissa Sable.[10]
