Description

The Sylph was created by Clan Cloud Cobra to augment their vast aerospace forces. Despite their scientist caste's vast knowledge of aircraft, they had a great deal of trouble getting the VTOL capabilities of the Sylph to function. As it is, any Sylph pilot must focus on maintaining altitude almost completely lest they crash. An interesting byproduct of the Sylph is that the Cobras obviously invested heavily in the design before it was even completed as they have already graduated sibkos of mixed Elementals and fighter pilots. The Sylph itself is ponderous on the ground, but can maintain 53 km/h in the air, though it does not "jump", per se. In order to achieve such speed, the designers stripped out roughly half of the armor protection of the original Elemental battle armor.

In mysticism, Sylphs are elemental spirits representing air.

Armament

The Sylph is armed with a Micro Pulse Laser, which is actually a slight improvement on the laser the Elemental suit mounts as its pulse technology affords it better accuracy. It is also useful as an anti-infantry weapon. In addition, the Sylph carries a bomb that can be dropped straight down on a target, dealing as much damage as a short range missile. A battle claw aids the trooper in holding on during anti-'Mech attacks.

Variants

  • Upgrade
The upgraded version on the Sylph replaces the laser and bomb rack with a Heavy Machine Gun and a standard Machine Gun. This improves overall damage output while seriously increasing the lethality to unarmored infantry, though at the cost of accuracy. BV (1.0) = 37
  • Sylph-XR
Created by Clan Snow Raven the Sylph-XR trades its flight capability for increased ground speed. A Battle Armor Myomer Booster system allows it to reach speeds of 58 km/h. By trading the bomb rack for a pair of arm-mounted Light Machine Guns and a Searchlight the Snow Ravens created an excellent anti-infantry unit. The Sylph-XR can outrun most infantry units and inflict massive amounts of damage on them. BV (2.0) = 42[2]
  • Enhanced Sylph
This is the production version of the Sylph-XR. It uses a Battle Armor Myomer Booster to reach speeds of 54 km/h, but replaces the Light Machine Guns and search light of the XR with a single ER Micro Laser. This allows the Enhanced Sylph to inflict damage on infantry and armored units, a major shortcoming of the Sylph-XR. Basic Manipulators allow the Enhanced Sylph to perform anti-'Mech attacks as well. BV (2.0) = 34[3]
