Torrent (b. 3??? - d. 3133) is a trueborn MechWarrior and Star Colonel in Kal Radick's Steel Wolves. [1] Torrent only appears in one source, the novel, "A Call to Arms". Strangely, his first name is never used. Torrent is portrayed as a gritty, glory-seeking warrior, fiercely loyal to Kal Radick and the Steel Wolves. Torrent has brown eyes and shaves his head bald.[2]

Character History

Very little character background is available for Torrent. He is descended from the Kerensky blood line[3] and is considered a ristar among the Steet Wolves. Torrent is not Bloodnamed. He longs to earn the Kerensky Bloodname[4] and has twice turned down opportunities to other, less prestigious, Bloodnames.[5]

Notable Actions

Achernar

Torrent was the commanding officer for the Steel Wolves invasion of Achernar and arrived there on 16 February 3133.[6] The Steel Wolf attack on Achernar was actually a feint to draw Knight-Errant Kyle Powers away from the planet of Ronel where another invasion was planned to secure the working HPG station there. It was feared that Powers' presence on Ronel would bolster the planets defense and jeapordize the invasions chances of success.[7]

The ploy worked. However, Knight Powers' arrival on Achernar brought Torrent two pieces of bad news. The first was that Republic-loyal forces on Achernar and the newly arrived Swordsworn had formed an unexpected alliance with Powers' guidance. The second was that the invasion of Ronel had faltered. As a consequence, reinforcements bound to aid Torrent were reassigned to Ronel, jeapordizing his efforts on Achernar. To even the odds, Torrent planned to challenge Kyle Powers to a Trial of Grievance in the hopes that destroying him would cause this new alliance to fail.[8]

Torrent offered the trial on 2 May 3133. To goad Powers to accept he threatened a broader, more destructive conflict on Achernar. He also blamed the Knight for an unsanctioned Swordsworn ambush on Steel Wolves forces soon after the formation of their alliance.[9]

The Trial of Grievance was on 10 May 3133. He was unable to win the trial and had to cede the field to Raul Ortega.[10] With the loss, he pushed his force to accomplish the second objective. Unfortunately, Ortega was able to once again best Torrent in open combat.[11]

Death

In the final battle for Achernar, Torrent's 'Mech engaged Ortega's 'Mech in hand to hand combat. Ortega was able to breach the shielding on the fusion reactor causing the reactor to go critical. The ensuing explosion disintegrated Torrent's Tundra Wolf leaving nothing where he once was.

BattleMech

During the invasion of Achernar, Torrent piloted a Tundra Wolf.
