Arms of Thor Logo
Hello. Are there any canon sources that specify the logo for the Arms of Thor unit? The artwork referenced in Maximum Tech is in the section for the Command Console only. Also, the color image technically is fan art, being reconstructed and colorized by a member of the BattleTech forums. --Cache (talk) 19:31, 13 January 2019 (EST)

:None other to my knowledge. I did indeed take that from this person In think.--Pserratv (talk) 06:45, 14 January 2019 (EST)

:: Sorry to butt in (and late), but fan-created art is <strike>official</strike> acceptable, if it is a quality improvement upon the available source image. For example, if the source image is only b&w, and someone can re-create it with indicated colors, then it is allowed. However, if no logo has ever been depicted--nor described--then this would not apply.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:09, 4 February 2019 (EST)

:::Umm, Rev? That's not how I remember it. Back in 2010 we specifically created the Template:ApocryphalImage for this purpose. And to quote Policy:Images: "Please note that any edit or modification to an image technically constitutes fan work, requiring attribution to the last editor (usually in addition to the original artist) and eliminating the image's canon status." Frabby (talk) 04:29, 5 February 2019 (EST)

:::: I mis-stated when I used the term "official", so I've changed it to "acceptable", though I suspect that does not pass your muster. And I'm glad you quoted that specific line from the policy ("Please note that any edit or modification to an image technically constitutes fan work, requiring attribution to the last editor (usually in addition to the original artist) and eliminating the image's canon status.").

Tim Nelson
Hi Pere, I rolled back your edits to the Hex Pack pages because they were... wrong. The Classic BT Introduction Box Set you linked is a 2007 product that has nothing to do with the 25 Anniversary edition or the subsequent non-anniversary edition of the boxed set that I meant (with, I'm told, much better quality miniatures) and for which we curiously seem to be missing an article. That's something I need to look into. Frabby (talk) 12:41, 4 February 2019 (EST)

You created the page Tim Nelson a few years ago, and last night it wound up in Special:LonelyPages. Do you recall anything he might have been an illustrator for? A Google Search gives me nothing, but Jim Nelson did draw a lot of stuff. I am wondering if you might have mistaken a J for a T in a signature?--Talvin (talk) 09:22, 12 April 2022 (EDT)

:It is clearly a mistake from my end. Page should be deleted.--Pserratv (talk) 08:58, 14 April 2022 (EDT)
::There are two box sets that came out eighteen months or so apart; one has the product number 3500A (I have 2 copies) and one has the product number 3500B (I have 1 copy). The edition with the number 3500A has the Hammerhands/Battleaxe on the cover (I can never remember which is which, but it's the early FedSuns lookalike for the Warhammer) while the one with the product number 3500B has an Atlas on the cover. To make life interesting, from memory they're both entitled "BattleTech Introductory Box Set", although I need to check that when I get home, but the one with the serial number 3500A has a tagline on the bottom right hand corner of the box front describing it as "The 25th Anniversary of the Game of Armoured Combat". Most of the contents of the two boxes are the same, but there are two exceptions. Firstly, each box contains two premium, high-quality minis that come in multiple parts; one set had (I think) a Loki and a Thor in it, or a Thor and a Summoner, but basically 2 Clan OmniMechs; the other had a Mad Cat and... I think an Atlas? I'm not sure what I did with my premium minis, but I don't think they're still in the boxes. Each also contained some single-piece sculpted minis, and those in the later 3500B box set are of noticeably higher quality. My time's all over the place at the moment, but if someone's going to clarify and expand the box set articles and wants pictures or more precise content details, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Good work on the officer tables, much quicker than I ever go! But I just want to say that one of the reasons I am slower is I take advantage of the change to Policy:Notability. == Template: Format Link ==
:::Indeed wrangler, I made the first table by hand but afterwards I have just copy/pasted. Mbear, I created them to try and solve the mess of what I call "wikisms" where consecutive authors and sources have resulted in something that is correct but makes no sense in terms of reader flow. I edited a bunch that said "Between 3025 and 3050 Colonel xxxx commanded the unit, he was still in command in 3067, and also 3085" the table is purposefully short (3 sections) in an effort to control the breakage... as such they look ok on my Samsung Note 8, but that is quite a big phone so maybe further feedback is required.--Dmon (talk) 03:34, 6 March 2019 (EST)
+

::::OK. Those are all logical reasons. I think we can do better though. By setting a couple CSS classes on the table it should be possible to make a table that presents information without breaking and forcing me to scroll horizontally. (I'm thinking of the vast tables on the Awards page, which make me cringe every time I visit the page.) And it may be possible to create a template that can be used to create the table. And add the caption "Commanding officer of Unit Name" without requiring a four-column colspan. I'd also like to remove the hardcoded 'width=200px' because that seems to be what's causing most of my problems. Let me do some more research and I'll try to get an example up sometime later this week.--Mbear(talk) 07:01, 6 March 2019 (EST)

Sub-unit Categories
+
Hi Pserratv
Hi Pere, I'm a bit non-plussed by some categories you created, such as :Category:Stormhammers Commands, :Category:Bannson's Raiders Commands, etc.. Should the sub-units that you categorize not simply be listed in the main article? After all, it's only ever going to be a handful of units in the first place, the number isn't going to increase, and since those factions weren't proper states, I don't think we need (or should) treat them like the militaries of established major states. Frabby (talk) 05:21, 7 March 2019 (EST)

:My reasoning to create those categories is that all military units belong to some command category... except for a few commands which finally ended in a "proper" big unit, I feel they need to be categorized. We already have small categories from "dead" states like the proto-estates of the past. Maybe they should be inside the Republic of the Sphere as factions, but I would then point them to Republic but keep their faction categorization, I feel it gives something. Which is your feeling?--Pserratv (talk) 05:24, 7 March 2019 (EST)

::I do not understand: Why would all military units need to be categorized into a command category?

::The core of the problem, I think, is the fact that personally, I want to keep the number of categories as low as possible, and that Sarna doesn't (yet) have a proper policy in place about how to organize military units.

::In my opinion, since the BT universe militaries are essentially organized as regiments, regiment articles should be at the core and they should be categorized into their respective state military (only). Most regiments don't even have another command that they belong to - there are only few actual brigades, and most of these, like the Davion Brigade of Guards, are not field commands but rather purely administrative bodies.

::In any case, since there is a rigid structure you can always put the next higher organisational level (if any) into the article, and by the same token name the individual battalions or companies of a given regiment in the regiment article unless they're so notable that they have their own articles (in which case you provide a link in the regiment/battalion article). With such a rigid structure, I guess I simply don't see a need for categories. Frabby (talk) 06:10, 7 March 2019 (EST)

:::I have no problem deleting the categories. I've linked them already as parent unit the Stormhammers, Steel Wolves... DO we make this official?--Pserratv (talk) 08:50, 7 March 2019 (EST)

::::Not sure. I've been thinking about rewriting Policy:Notability for some time, and wanted to include organisational issues like this one. But I'm just one of Sarna's many contributors, and as such would like to build a broader consensus first on wether or not (and how) we should adress this issue. Frabby (talk) 10:15, 7 March 2019 (EST)

:::::Let's raise it there then, and see how we tackle this. Factions are mainly because of the Dark Ages miniature pack... not many more.--Pserratv (talk) 10:22, 7 March 2019 (EST)

::::::A small handful of stuff like the Eridani Guards, Knights Defensor and of course the "Dark Age" units has always been a bit of an issue under our current system. This realy annoys me because the current system works pretty damn well for most other types of command. It is one of the things we have managed to hammer out over time into a really effective system.--Dmon (talk) 21:05, 7 March 2019 (EST)

Hey PS,
How come you restored the duplicated information in the William Baranov article? The sentence immediately before that one states that they killed eachother.. Hi Pere, good job about checking the roster in the sourcebook and finding the Diamondstar and Majestic Defiance! ::Sorry for slow reply, I had not noticed that you had replied. And yes, sadly there will be a LOT of copy/paste the same reference but it is better than trying to put it into the family tree itself. However I can let you know that we have found the lance lists that were on the dossiers are not in the MechWarrior: Dark Age - Dossiers and Pilot Cards resource. Additionally we have found small differences between all the different fan-created compendiums and other resources. Finally we are taking pictures of MWDA models and cards to place on the wiki, which will also assist in the creation of the character articles and many others. I am using MechWarrior: Dark Age - Miniatures for a staging area and doing modifications to the display of such data.

: I guess I've been called in here. I wouldn't say they're meta-sources as Sarna uses the term - I don't believe anyone's been directly citing unofficial compilations and the like - but there are a number of pages around with poor citations of DA dossiers dating back to the early days of Sarna. Individual dossiers directly linked in bibliographies without any indication of what, if any, material was drawn from them, usually. I've been mostly on break from sweeping those up for the last month or so, mostly because I have a lot on my plate otherwise, so there's still too many pages to go. The goal's to cite what hasn't been cited, update citations to the most current publication of the dossiers when applicable (with the caveat that some fragments of info, like the lance lists, never made it into the most current publication), clear direct links to dossiers from bibliographies, and basically push things from 2008 standards to 2024 standards. --Tumult&Travail (talk) 18:12, 19 March 2024 (EDT)

Lider[edit]

Morning, Pserratv. Question of pure curiosity from me: why is the word "LiDER" backwards on this image of the Warhammer II? All of the other words display properly.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:50, 21 June 2022 (EDT)

I've possessed this for ages and never saw that detail. Most probably it is an error preparing the pages... usually is written correctly.--Pserratv (talk) 08:18, 23 June 2022 (EDT)
I've been checking them all, and LiDER is the spell in all of them I see two options Revanche:
 • They wanted to make it special.
 • In spanisht the word is Líder, so maybe to make it more international they took out the accent but kept the letter in non-capital letters. I sincerely do not know how this works now, but when I studied it was not needed to put accents in capital letters, but a must with non-capital
Hope it helps--Pserratv (talk) 11:18, 11 October 2022 (EDT)

Fin de partida, Punto de conflagracion, Patriotas y tiranos, and Tormentas del destino; Silencio en el paraíso and Verdades y sombras by Martin Delrio; and La forja de un héroe, Operacion audacia, and Rugido de honor by Blaine Lee Pardoe. Have you heard anything about these? Madness Divine (talk) 21:39, 25 March 2023 (EDT)

Yes, they are the spanish translations of these books. I do not have them (indeed in spanihs I basically have both trilogies and a couple more.--Pserratv (talk) 11:49, 30 March 2023 (EDT)
Do you know whether they're official products or fan translations? Madness Divine (talk) 18:50, 30 March 2023 (EDT)
Hi, in this link List of BattleTech Print Novels in Spanish you can find the ones I identified as original. There are some from an Anna, but the rest. I mean there are original translations of them. I simply don't have them though.--Pserratv (talk) 05:27, 31 March 2023 (EDT)

Disambig pages[edit]

Pserratv, the new disambig MoS is to have them on the pages without (disambiguation) in the title. You can confirm with Dmon if you want. --Csdavis715 (talk) 08:03, 12 July 2023 (EDT)

Sorry, didn't know that. Are you also then cross-reversing this, because it is quite a work to be done--Pserratv (talk) 08:06, 12 July 2023 (EDT)
No worries. Yea, it's going to take a bit of time going through them all. Maybe months. But undo'ing the ones from the last few minutes I can take care of. --Csdavis715 (talk) 08:08, 12 July 2023 (EDT)

Helping out with Family Trees[edit]

Hey Ps, just looking at your new Dinah Marik article. It is good that these last characters from the family trees get added, but could you do me a favor and when doing characters with relatives, could you be sure to add citations to the family members in the infobox as well. Even if it is all the same reference it saves me having to go check next time I am doing family tree work!--Dmon (talk) 11:51, 11 September 2023 (EDT)

Will do that. It is a copy of ond of the brothers, who does not have it. There will be a loooot of with that! 🤣--Pserratv (talk) 15:33, 11 September 2023 (EDT)
Sorry for slow reply, I had not noticed that you had replied. And yes, sadly there will be a LOT of copy/paste the same reference but it is better than trying to put it into the family tree itself. (you have seen how horrible the code is for them even without references). So when somebody clicks on a character in a tree, we need them to see all the siblings etc are referenced, just so people can feel confident the tree is correct.
Also, reversed your edit adding in the Devalis surname to Carolina Devalis's mother as we don't know she had the same surname. (She likely did as this is BattleTech).--Dmon (talk) 07:35, 15 September 2023 (EDT)
Where I live marriage does not carry a change in surnames, but in Battletech universe it seems it is always the "saxon" way, that was the point, but OK with your change.--Pserratv (talk) 07:42, 15 September 2023 (EDT)
I actually agree you are likely correct, but we don't actually know for sure.--Dmon (talk) 08:31, 15 September 2023 (EDT)

Armorcast BattleTech[edit]

This is the website of the former owner of Armorcast. The page is a copy of Armorcast's BattleTech online catalog. Armorcast BattleTech --Cache (talk) 09:37, 7 November 2023 (EST)

I think it is work having here on sarna just in case.--Pserratv (talk) 09:38, 7 November 2023 (EST)
I'm sorry for not being clear. I was sharing the website for your reference. That is the most accurate information on the kits, as well as better quality pictures. (I'm just not in a position to contribute more at the moment.)--Cache (talk) 09:43, 7 November 2023 (EST)
OK, thanks. I'll review and update based on your copy of the page!!--Pserratv (talk) 11:54, 7 November 2023 (EST)
I was reviewing this again and realized that an article already had been created for Armorcast's BattleTech miniatures. It might be best to merge your recent article into the old: Miniatures - Armorcast--Cache (talk) 16:42, 10 November 2023 (EST)

Query[edit]

Hi Pseterrav, I'm Fredericmora. Can we talk? There is something I would to ask you. F

Sir Roger articles[edit]

Hi Pserratv, in speaking with other senior admins on Discord, we determined/confirmed that Sir Roger is not canon and because of that, we will be moving the 4 mech pages from its publication into the main article as a subsection. I will do my best to make sure nothing is omitted. Csdavis715 (talk) 05:06, 4 January 2024 (EST)

No worries. Tell which will be the new place and I'll try to review this.--Pserratv (talk) 17:19, 4 January 2024 (EST)
Ok, take a look and let me know what you think. It was pretty much a copy/paste. Csdavis715 (talk) 07:42, 6 January 2024 (EST)

Tina Rosche and Evan Kaiple[edit]

Hi again! Could I ask you to take a look at your Tina Rosche article? It looks like almost the whole main body was copied from the Andrew Giggins page and doesn't really pertain to Rosche, aside from her presumably being with her unit during those events. I think most of it can be removed.

Second, the Evan Kaiple page is very long and has 2 challenges I'm hoping you can fix more easily than me: 1) it needs some subheaders to organize the history into sections and make it easier to read, and 2) it needs to be in the past tense. Thanks! Csdavis715 (talk) 08:08, 6 January 2024 (EST)

Done except the past tense... not sure what you want.--Pserratv (talk) 11:17, 9 January 2024 (EST)
(Apologies for jumping in...) Preterite tense or imperfect tense. Much of the article is written as though it is currently happening. It should be written as though it happened in the past. For example, "The unit discovers that the next mission was in Skye." should be, "The unit discovered that the next mission was on Skye."--Cache (talk) 12:35, 9 January 2024 (EST)
Got it. I'll try to review it, but not this week.--Pserratv (talk) 04:20, 10 January 2024 (EST)
I cleaned up the first part of the Kaiple article up to the section on Skye. Putting in the subheaders helped a lot. I'll check back in next week and do a little more if you haven't had tmie to look at it by then. Also thanks for cleaning up the Rosche page. Csdavis715 (talk) 20:57, 15 January 2024 (EST)
I did until "Shinonoi", but no more. If you can cleanse the rest, better.--Pserratv (talk) 11:54, 17 January 2024 (EST)
All done now, thanks for your help. It's a lot for one character, isn't it?! Csdavis715 (talk) 12:29, 30 January 2024 (EST)
Maybe too much, but those diaries cover a lot of detailed information which maybe I wrote too much.--Pserratv (talk) 13:40, 30 January 2024 (EST)

George Adlet[edit]

Hi Pserratv, could I ask you to take a look at George Adlet? I just did a touchup of the page but couldn't figure out the 3 parts I marked. Thanks Csdavis715 (talk) 00:28, 25 February 2024 (EST)

I've reviewed them and madeone amendment while settign details and pages of the points marked. Hope this helps.--Pserratv (talk) 17:42, 3 March 2024 (EST)
So, I wasn't really asking for citations there, or I would have used the cn tag. I figured the one in the article lead was a typo, but for the other two I was looking for clarification on the meaning of what you wrote. I don't have that book and you didn't link to anything that could explain what a Greenlander, Inuit, or Dankova is. I think it would be helpful to any reader if all information we write can be explained or accessed without requiring a book. Csdavis715 (talk) 01:23, 4 March 2024 (EST)
Got it now and I'm going to amend that, using wiki in most cases as they are existing terms.--Pserratv (talk) 08:53, 4 March 2024 (EST)
Now that I know what you meant, I was able to smooth it out. Thanks for your time and help improving this. Csdavis715 (talk) 09:47, 4 March 2024 (EST)

MWDA content[edit]

As I know that you aren't on Discord, I'm unable to forward you in the direction of the resource Google drive we are using for MWDA content.

Helping with all of this is User:Tumult&Travail, who is going though these MWDA meta-sources and cleaning up a fair amount of pages that either took from them, or say that they did. I'll let him expand on that himself. --Deadfire (talk) 14:21, 19 March 2024 (EDT)

I guess I've been called in here.
I'm using as reference the two documents that are being shared in the classic battletech pages. If there are new sources, you can contact me in mail e-mail address. it is easy... it is gmail with this user.--Pserratv (talk) 09:03, 21 March 2024 (EDT)
Aye, it is just that easy. I shared the Google drive folder with your Gmail. That should provide you what all we are looking at with this.--Deadfire (talk) 12:28, 24 March 2024 (EDT)
Thanks, downloading them :).--Pserratv (talk) 12:35, 24 March 2024 (EDT)
