Balbas was a key Dark Caste leader in the Clan Homeworlds.

Personal History[edit]

Balbas served the former Elemental Red Willows Free Guild leader Satinka, who was secretly also the Dark Caste leader Zimnyana Ledi, or the Winter Lady. In 3071, Satinka heard about a new weapons dealer in Katyusha City, a male Elemental, and she organized a meeting to buy from him, on 10 July. Balbas, her second-in-command, brought the dealer, "Yama", to see her office. When Satinka saw him face-to-face, she recognized him as her old sibkin Garmen Kerensky. After unmasking herself, and revealing that both Wolves knew each other, she dismissed Balbas, who left the office. Shortly afterward, Garmen agreed to dealing with her.[1]

Satinka's people's assistance proved invaluable to Garmen's team, who were to execute Operation SPATHA, part of Operation DAMOCLES II, a Clan Wolf series of attacks to claim all Bloodhouse Kerensky legacies in the Clan Homeworlds. Garmen's team was to board the WarShip McKenna's Pride and stole General Aleksandr Kerensky's coffin; Satinka's people assisted them, but the attempt failed. Satinka's group suffered heavy losses, but Balbas survived, and Garmen's team found him tending bar where they met. Later, the groups created a permanent alliance which gave the Winter Lady's team control of all Dark Caste business in the city.[2]

Toward the end of 3075, Satinka suggested creating a suicide unit to attack the Space Control Center of Katyusha City. She helped Garmen recruit Stas, an old Wolf MechWarrior who held a deep grudge against the Grand Council. He agreed, and recruited first three other former Wolves, and later a full Trinary, which became the Retribution Wraiths.[3]

After an assault from Ebon Keshik forces, Satinka's people vanished, including Balbas, and her official existence as a guild leader ceased, but the Katyusha Keshik were unable to seize more than a small part of her resources.[4]

On 5 April 3076, SPATHA II was finally launched; Garmen and Satinka's people who would leave the Clan Homeworlds attacked together, but Balbas stayed behind. He had developed a mutual respect relationship, almost friendship, with Stas, and led Operation ARCHER, the blowing up of several bridges in Katyusha City, assisting Stas until he and his people made their last stand.[5]

However, despite Satinka's departure, the Winter Lady stayed "alive"; Balbas, who succeeded her, became the de facto new Winter King, but kept the mythical female leader active using four body doubles, keeping himself in the shadows.[6]

Physical description[edit]

Balbas was described as a lean man with short dark hair.[7]
