History[edit]

Kincaid Furey is first noted in 3026 when he is described as Khan of Clan Smoke Jaguar,[1] a position Leo Showers was known to hold as of 3029.[2]

Operation REVIVAL[edit]

Furey placed the blame for the Smoke Jaguars' setbacks during Operation REVIVAL at his political rival Sarah Weaver's feet. Effectively weakening her political position, Sarah narrowly lost an impromptu election and Kincaid became the new saKhan of Clan Smoke Jaguar during the Clan's return to the Homeworlds and the Grand Kurultai. Furey was the representative of his Clan at the inquest over ilKhan Leo Showers' death during Operation REVIVAL, questioning the story of Phelan Wolf in June 3051 at the Hall of Khans, only to be insulted by the bondsman. His aspirations at being elected ilKhan were dashed, and Furey instead nominated Ulric Kerensky.[3] He did not hold his position for long. Given his failure to censure the unanimously-elected ilKhan, Sarah Weaver challenged and defeated Kincaid in late 3051, allowing her to once again gain the saKhanship.[4]

For the January 3052 attack on Luthien, Furey was appointed by ilKhan Ulric Kerensky as the overall commander. The bidding was open to the forces of both Clan Smoke Jaguar and Clan Nova Cat a move either forced by the ilKhan or planned by Furey to properly face the most difficult REVIVAL challenge thus far.[5] Kincaid Furey was in turn supported during the battle by Star Colonel[4] Dorian Wirth, who was given the honor of formulating the Smoke Jaguar bid against Nova Cat saKhan Lucien Carns.[6] Wirth was given a considerable degree of power during the assault on Luthien, as the "representative" of an injured saKhan Sarah Weaver.[4] Wirth was first to bid away orbital support, though saKhan Carns bid away half of the combined force's aerospace fighter support. Star Colonel Wirth eventually won the bidding with three Galaxies of frontline warriors, plus three aerospace Clusters.[5]

Kincaid Furey mediated between the two forces, appraising the Nova Cat preference of a surgical strike directly against the Coordinator and the capital of Imperial City. Star Colonel Wirth instead wished to spread the defenders thin and strike at key points to break the Combine units across the planet. Sensing the rising tensions, Furey incorporated both plans. His compromise plan would strike at the Kuritan family, attempting to take them alive and strike across the planet to minimize the chances of forces escaping and waging an insurgency. Holding the planet and the Combine's leaders would not only throw the Draconis Combine into disarray, but the forces on other contested worlds were likely to abandon their posts to avenge their Coordinator. Kincaid Furey hoped to use the fall of Luthien against IlKhan Ulric Kerensky and propel the Smoke Jaguars back to the forefront of the invasion,[7] but instead oversaw the destruction of over half of the Clan forces and delayed Wave 5 for almost two months, leaving the Smoke Jaguars little options outside the coming battle of Tukayyid to regain their footing.[8][9]

Notes[edit]

Canonicity of Luthien Sourcebook As a Source[edit]

The Luthien scenario pack is known for containing numerous factual errors. Line Developer Herbert A. Beas II once made a statement to the effect that certain products including this one are considered "secondary sources" by the writers staff, but this should not be construed to mean they are not canonical. It is standard procedure in cases of conflicting information to treat later publications as accurate over earlier publications.

And, if Sarna used the Luthien scenario pack as a resource there, the fact is, that book proved to be so riddled with errors, it--like First Edition Periphery and Objective Raids--is now seen by our staff as a "secondary source": Canon only in areas where it does not clash with other canon.

  • Khan Lincoln Osis is instead given command of the Smoke Jaguar forces on Luthien in Invading Clans.[8] This is the only time Khan Osis is instead detailed as being present on Luthien, and as Khan Osis would likely have assumed any command given to Kincaid Furey, this would retcon much of the Luthien scenario pack completely, something that has not been explicitly done, as above.
  • Regarding Smoke Jaguar's leadership, little can be concretely verified and caution is recommended.
