The Republican Guards were a volunteer militia formed under Tara Campbell's Highlanders.[1][2]

History[edit]

Dark Age[edit]

The Republican Guards were formed in 3132, shortly after Tara Campbell became Prefect of Prefecture III in the wake of the Blackout. Desperate to shore up her prefecture's defenses, with many of the Prefecture's forces having joined the ranks of the warring splinter factions and with Tara's Highlanders spread thin, she put out an open call for recruits to fight for the Republic of the Sphere's ideals. Many came to Northwind from across and beyond the Republic, dedicated and passionate but inexperienced.[1][2]

By October 3133, the Republican Guards had begun to coalesce into a cohesive unit, although still underdisciplined and underskilled.[3] The unit participated momentarily in the complex 3133 clash over Irian, protecting a planetary supply convoy from the First Bannson's Raiders on 7 October before being ordered to leave the planet by Legate Ramon Martinez—their presence frustrated the local Standing Guard and Irian Technologies security commanders alike.[4] The Republican Guards took many Republic-loyal Iriani with them on their way out.[3]
