Description

First introduced in 3096, this post-Jihad design was created by Clan Wolf as a cheap anti-aircraft platform. Slow and heavily armored, the Aesir is often set into static positions where its relatively slow speed is not considered a liability. The design also includes CASE for added protection. In addition to its primary role of air defense, the Aesir is often utilized as a mobile gun emplacement.

While initially produced for use in Clan Wolf's second line formation, it has since spread through out the Inner Sphere. Clan Wolf in Exile also produces this design, and Clan Sea Fox is known to sell it to any interested party. Production of the vehicle in Clan Wolf's space would laster be transferred to its new holding in their new terrority in Wolf Empire, produced at former Free Worlds League military company.[2]

Weapons and Equipment

The Aesir mounts a set of four Type Sierra LB-X Autocannon/2s in its turret. With their long range, and cluster munitions, they serve as an effective counter against airborne raiders. Two tons of ammunition are provided.

The vehicle armor protection includes 9.5 tons of Forging OTR20d Ferro-Fibrous Armor. While giving the vehicle additional protection from crippling damage, the Aesir is equipped with an Armored Motive System.[2]

Variants

  • HAG
Used by Clan Hell's Horses, this version of the Aesir replaces the LB-X autocannons with a single turret mounted HAG/40. It carries six tons of ammunition and retains the armor protection and Armored Motive System of the original Aesir. BV (2.0) = 1,505[4][5]

Notes

  • The Aesir was first created by Wizkids' MechWarrior Dark Age Collectable Miniatures game as a part of its Counter Assault expansion set. The figure was used by main four factions during the release as a common combat vehicle. The Aesir was later adapted by Catalyst Game Labs and redefined in the tabletop game once the company advanced the franchise's timeline to 3145.
  • Though the original Dossier for counterassault lists the Aesir as tracked, its image clearly shows the vehicle as being wheeled; assuming that the listed speed is correct, a 145 rated engine would be appropriate for a wheeled vehicle of its size.

Design Quirks

The Aesir is subject to the following Design Quirk:
