Giving up the Ghost, subtitled Fortunes of War #1, is an original short story by Bryan Young. The story is the first entry in the Fortunes of War digital short-story series announced by Catalyst Game Labs as unlockable stretch goals for the crowdfunding campaign for the BattleTech: Mercenaries boxset. Giving up the Ghost was the $200,000 USD stretch goal and was unlocked free to all backers for the campaign, made available for download on 3 May 2023.

Plot summary[edit]
After fighting off the Jade Falcons on Carsphairn, The "Wolfhounds" - the Third Company of the Second Kell Hounds Battalion find out rather abruptly that the Kell Hounds are disbanding and struggle to meet that challenge by adopting a new unit persona.
