The Carsphairn system was home to at least one habitable world, Carsphairn III, and as of 3145 was located in the Donegal Province of the Lyran Commonwealth.[2][3]

System Description[edit]

Carsphairn is located near the Alkaid and Vindemiatrix systems[2][3] and consists of eight planets orbiting a class K1V primary.[1]

System History[edit]

The Carsphairn system was colonized at some point during or shortly after the First Exodus from Terra and was a member of the Federation of Skye prior to the formation of the Lyran Commonwealth in the mid-twenty-fourth century.[4]

Carsphairn III, more commonly known simply as Carsphairn, is the third planet in the Carsphairn system and has three large moons named Ammon, Jael, and Zayit that exert a strong influence over the planet.[1]

Planetary History[edit]

A beautiful world, the severe weather patterns on Carsphairn caused by the three large moons in orbit ensured that only the hardiest colonists could survive. The tornadoes, thunderstorms, blizzards, and ice storms discouraged many settlers, but the arable land could grow transplanted crops and the native fauna were also a good food source. These advantages, along with the landscapes, encouraged many settlers to stay. The Carsphairnians rejected skyscrapers, which were dangerous in the world's high winds, and instead preferred to build low structures close to ground level. Big farms and other large land areas were enclosed in weather-repelling domes.[1]

Over time the world became part of the Lyran Commonwealth, but considered itself a member of the Federation of Skye first and the Commonwealth second. During the Succession Wars its location several jumps away from any borders insured that it survived most of the conflicts intact. It wasn't until the Jihad that the world saw any enemy troops; the Word of Blake landed several times to acquire food for their troops.[1]

After the Republic of the Sphere formed, the garrison on the world was staffed with members of Clan Wolf, the Lyran Commonwealth, and the Draconis Combine.[1]

Geography[edit]

Carsphairn has five continents named Basallia, Gillinia, North Teslia, South Teslia, and Yddrig.

Planetary Locations[edit]

  • Narcisse: The planetary capital city, located on Gillinia. A large seaport with a large spaceport attached, ships from Narcisse link the city with each of the other four continents on Carsphairn.[1]

Notes[edit]

Some sources from the Dark Age timeline erroneously refer to this system as "Carsphaim." This has officially been declared to be a misspelling; the correct official name is Carsphairn.[30]
