The Chaffee system was home to at least one habitable world or construct and as of 3151 was located in the Donegal Province of the Lyran Commonwealth.[2]

System Description[edit]

Chaffee is located near the Gladius and Nekkar systems.[3][4]

System History[edit]

The Chaffee system was colonized during or shortly after the First Exodus from Terra, and was a member of the Federation of Skye prior to the formation of the Lyran Commonwealth in the mid-twenty-fourth century.[5]

Planetary History[edit]

Star League[edit]

During the Star League era, Chaffee was a planet most commonly known for its artistic retreats.[32]

Clan Invasion[edit]

In 3052, during the Clan Invasion, ComStar Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht chose Chaffee as a possible alternative battlefield to Tukayyid when he planned his battle against the Clans.[33]

Jihad[edit]

In 3069, elements of the 18th Division attacked Chaffee looking for supplies after their raid on Glengarry. However, the efforts of the Chaffee Militia soon drove the invaders off world.[34]

As a part of Operation SCOUR, the Chaffee Militia was deployed to the recently liberated world of Chara in October 3077.[35]

Dark Age[edit]

In 3134, a small task force of Clan Jade Falcon, escorted by the Emerald Talon, launched an attack against the Republic of the Sphere after traveling first through Commonwealth space. The task force, ostensibly aimed at destroying what the Falcons termed the false wolves, pledged not to attack the Lyran state, but then landed attack forces on Porrima and Chaffee. Chaffee, was completely overrun, and it was there that Falcon forces slaughtered 50,000 inhabitants in the city of Hamilton—a savage and heavy-handed action that has outraged billions across the Inner Sphere and prompted calls for war against Jade Falcon.

The Hamilton Massacre came to light soon after the liberation of Chaffee by the Stormhammers, a pro-Commonwealth faction within The Republic of the Sphere, who acted in conjunction with the Steel Wolves to rout Jade Falcon there last November. Whether the successful campaign was accomplished with the direct support of the Commonwealth government remains unclear at this time, but it has become a rallying cry for many who feel the current administration is failing to deal with the more immediate threat Jade Falcon represents, even as tensions mount on Republican and League borders.[36]
