System Description[edit]
The Marfik system is located near the Kimball and Ryde systems and is Coreward from Terra. The systems contains six planets that orbit a AIV class star[1][2]
System History[edit]
The Marfik system was colonized at sometime during the reign of the Star League.[3]

Planetary History[edit]
Star League[edit]
Colonized during the Star League era, Marfik V is a hot world that lacks a thick atmosphere and an ozone layer. As a result the surface of the world is constantly bombarded by radioactivity and cosmic rays. Colonists quickly set up new cities underground or under protective domes. Many Terran plants were imported to the world in an attempt to thicken the atmosphere and these were later supplemented with atmospheric processors.[1]
Though this was a long-term project, in the later years of the Star League the terraforming efforts had paid off. The population could - for the first time - walk on the planet's surface without special breathing equipment or environmental suits. The thicker atmosphere also allowed miners to extract germanium and titanium with relative ease.[1]
Succession Wars[edit]
Unfortunately, the conflicts common to the Succession Wars destroyed the atmospheric processors and Marfik's atmosphere began to return to its tainted state. The population once again began to retreat to underground and domed cities to protect themselves from the radiation.[1]
Third Succession War[edit]
By 2870, the Draconis Combine had taken control of Marfik.[16]
As of 3024, Marfik was still considered a relatively pleasant world. The city of Massingham (in the Massingham Valley) is mentioned and a resort to the east called Netaltown. Other landmarks include the DonnerBrau Forest and a nearby city named Gether's Jewel.[44]
Fourth Succession War[edit]
As part of Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the Lyran Commonwealth sent the elite Fourth Skye Rangers and over two dozen conventional regiments to attack Marfik in August of 3028. Control of the planet was almost secondary to the potential capture of Tai-sa Theodore Kurita, the son of Coordinator Takashi Kurita, who led the Eleventh Legion of Vega defending the world. However, Hauptmann-Kommandant Kathleen Heany, commander of the Fourth Skye Rangers, disobeyed the agreed to battle plan and was led into separating her BattleMech and armored forces. This gave Theodore an opportunity to lead his forces in destroying several conventional Lyran units while the invading 'Mechs were lost in the DonnerBrau Forest.[45][46]
Chastened at this defeat, the Lyran's regrouped and slowly ground the Combine forces down. Despite Theodore Kurita's leadership skills, he was forced to retreat and surrender Marfik to the Lyran Commonwealth.[45][46]
Dark Age[edit]
Marfik would become part of the Republic of the Sphere after the end of the Jihad.[38]
By the 3130s, Marfik had returned to its original state with travel on the surface without a filter mask and special reflective environmental suits not recommended.[1]
Marfik would fall to the Jade Falcons sometime after their assault, the Desant, into the Republic of the Sphere's Prefecture IX after the HPG Blackout.[42]
Military Deployment[edit]
