Planetary History[edit]

Exodus[edit]

By 2296, Sakhalin marked one edge of the area of space within which the interstellar trade company Skye Traders was the dominant commercial interest, an area which in 2299 would form the basis of the new interstellar nation founding by Ian McQuiston of Skye: the Federation of Skye.[1]

The Star League[edit]

Sakhalin was the host of an Star League Defense Force garrison during the final years of the Star League.[30]

The Succession Wars[edit]

Sakhalin was a battleground system fought over between the Lyran Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine during the Second Succession War. In February 2860, Lyran forces successfully repelled a raid carried out by a large number of Phoenix Hawk LAMs, inflicting heavy losses, but lost their commander Henry DeCalidore in the fighting. Later that year, a force of ten regiments unexpectedly captured Sakhalin, which effectively split the front into two separate theaters. Finally in 2863, two heavy Lyran regiments—the elite Third Donegal Guards and the famous veteran Stealths—were able to retake it; however, the Stealths lost over half their MechWarriors, including heavy battalion commander and regimental second-in-command, the famous Angela Franks, widely known as "The Black Pearl."[31]

When the Fifteenth Lyran Guards were sent to recapture Sakhalin from the DCMS they found the planet defended by the Thirty Second Dieron Regulars. The Fifteenth, which was composed mainly of Zeus Battlemechs and a few Commandos, went direclty to capture a high ridge overlooking two large forests and a grassy plain beyond. The Thirty Second failed to storm the Fifteenth and when some Commandos tried to flank them moved themselves to spend the night in the plain. At nightfall, a heavy rain began making visibility very low. This was used by the 15th to move silently down from the ridge and prepare an ambush to the kurita forces. At sunrise the surprised Dieron Regulars charged the LCAF forces. The weight of their 'Mechs, BattleMasters and Dragon]]s mostly turned the grassland into mud, which made advance difficult and spread out the formation. At this time the LCAF defenders started to fire against the atacking forces which had limited firing archs, and then unleashed the SRMs from the Commandos to devastate the attackers, who routed after lossing eight BattleMasters and five Dragon's for a Zeus and three Commandos from the LCAF.[32]
