Description

First conceived by then Terran Hegemony's Earthwerks Inc of Calloway VI in 2463, this vessel was design fill the role of projection on small bodies of water and flagship. The design was built to be transportable via Dropship and has saw service in wet navies through out the worlds of the Inner Sphere and Periphery. Was also foreseen as asset against Pirates and to provide defense against Planetary Assaults, moving to areas only it could go.

In the ensuing centuries, the Earthwerks licenced the design to many buys to build locally, while getting profitable fees for the design. The company sent construction kits containing parts exclusively constructed on planet to the customer.

The ship's named for Terra's Hawaii Islands' Mountain by the same name that served as outpost natives.[1]

Armaments & Capacities

The Mauna Kea has a turret mounted Mydron Model B Autocannon/10 with a Holly 15-tubed Long-Range Missile launcher. Both have been given two tons of ammunition provided for each of the weapons for a sustain fire fight. For close-quarters and anti-infantry combat, the ship is armed with five 20mm Gatlin Guns with half ton of ammunition. The guns are placed in pairs on left & right sides of the ship, while a single gun is left protect its rear.

The ship was design as a command vessel, so it has 1 ton worth of communication gear was fitted onto the vessel. The ship has 9 ton Infantry Bay to transport troops hard-to reach locations. The ship has six tons of cargo which was set aside for owners to customized the ship as they saw fit.

Including allowing for two additional platoons of troops, and expansion of the Command facilities.

Variants

  • Mauna Kea (LRM Variant) - Constructed during the Star League era, this variant increases the ship's firepower by adding front-mounted 15-Tubed Long-Range Missile Laucher. The ship's infantry bay is reduced to 2 tons. BV (2.0) = 1,005[2]
  • Mauna Kea (LRT Variant) - Also designed during the Star League era, this variant designed for the anti-submarine role. The turreted mounted LRM is exchanged for a 15-tubed Long-Range Torpedo Launcher, which has been given 2 tons of ammunition. BV (2.0) = 872[3]
  • Mauna Kea (LB-X Variant) - Introduuced during the Jihad, this upgrade of the ancient Mauna Kea updates the ships' weaponry with modern versions. The classic Mydron Model B autocannon is exchanged for a LB 10-X autocannon. The LRM launcher is enhanced by Artemis IV Fire Control System. Both enhanced weaponry retain their 2 ton ammunition allotments. BV (2.0) = 256[4]

Named Vessels

  • Acero - The ship served during the Age of War era, as flagship for the small Bluewater navy on Helm. The ship was operated in the Yehudan Sea near city of Durandel. The ship was noted for its final action against littoral pirates in 2532. The Acero lead its small squadron of revenue cutters and machine gun armed hydrofoils against the Pirate force. In the ensuing battle, the Acero was lost, but she and her entire force sunk and shot down all the pirates of hovercraft, displacement missile boats and VTOLs.[5]
