Description

The Stinger is a light BattleMech that was built in 2479 as a direct competitor to the Wasp BattleMech. The Stingers various roles include reconnaissance, scouting, raiding, and as a trainer 'Mech. The Stingers light but varied armament as well as its jumping capability of 180 meters make it suitable for these various roles. As of 3025 it was estimated that there were somewhere around five thousand Stingers left in use by the various states of the Inner Sphere.

Armament

The Stinger carries a light weapons load with an Omicron 3000 Medium Laser as its primary weapon. The laser is backed up by two LFN Linbald Machine Guns.

Variants

STG-5R Stinger
  • STG-3G - The 3G Stinger trades the two Machine Guns for a second Medium Laser. While this variant increases the Stingers lethality, it also makes heat management a little more complicated for less experienced MechWarriors. BV (1.0) = 438, BV (2.0) = 497
  • STG-3P - The 3P is built on an Endo Steel chassis and carries, as its only weapon, a Light PPC capable of striking a target at out to five hundred and fourty meters. Additionally, the 3P carries four tons of armor to protect it from enemy fire.
  • STG-5M - This upgraded version of the Stinger takes advantage of several new technologies. The chassis has been upgraded to Endo Steel and the 'Mech carries an Anti-Missile System, a Medium Laser, and a Flamer. BV (1.0) = 352, BV (2.0) = 432
  • STG-5T - Capable of engaging an enemy at any range, the 5T variant of the Stinger is armed with two MML-3 launchers, which are capable of firing both LRM and SRM ammunition, making the 5T extremely flexible. To allow the 5T to carry this impressive arsenal, it is powered by an XL engine and uses three tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor.
  • STG-6L - The 6L variant of the Stinger utilizes an Endo Steel structure and Stealth Armor. The 'Mech carries two Medium Lasers and a Guardian ECM Suite. BV (1.0) = 603, BV (2.0) = 680
  • STG-6S - Obviously intended for anti-infantry use, the 6S uses a light engine to push the 'Mech up to speeds of 118.8 km/h and is capable of reaching speeds of 151.2 km/h through the use of a MASC system. The 'Mech can also jump up to two hundred and ten meters. An additional weight saving measure on this variant is the use of a Small Cockpit. The 'Mech is armed with two Light Machine Guns for anti-infantry and crowd control use. To defend itself against 'Mechs and vehicles, the 6S has a single ER Medium Laser
