Description

The Suffren-class destroyer is among the first generation of post-Clan Invasion WarShips, and ComStar's first new WarShip design since the Dante in 2941.

Initiated after the Battle of Tukayyid and the subsequent Reformation, while the Com Guards had a large array of old SLDF WarShips, Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht desired a vessel which would not be familiar to the Clan Touman. The project lacked the pace of comparable Successor State WarShip programs because of those existing vessels, with virtual reality technology similar to that used by the Precentor Martial to coordinate that fighting on Tukayyid used to discover and resolve design flaws while waiting for the Titan Yards to be upgraded to produce the most modern design possible. Ultimately the delay led to only two examples of the class constructed prior to the loss of the Titan Yards to the Word of Blake.

The vessel's use of such materials as Ferro-Aluminum armor and Double Heat Sinks mark the Suffren as the height of advance tech, capable of unleashing and weathering impressive nose and broadside barrages, also including a Lithium-Fusion Battery as standard.

Armament

The Suffren features an arsenal of fairly even mix of conventional anti-aerospace and capital class weaponry. The nose bays feature two NAC/40s and a trio of Heavy Naval PPCs, twin Gauss Rifles, eight ER Large Lasers, two Artemis IV FCS enhanced LRM-20s and six Small Pulse Lasers for point defense, the aft bays mirrorring the nose save for excluding the Naval PPCs. The fore and aft angles feature three Naval Laser 45s, two ER and three standard Large Lasers each, with twin NAC/20s, a Medium Naval PPC, double LRM-20s and six point defense small pulse lasers mounted in each broadside.

Cargo

Beyond its four DropShip capacity and sizable 92,727 tons of stores, the Suffren is designed to carry eight Small Craft and a full marine battalion, allowing the destroyer to repel boarding attempt on itself or seize control of any non-Clan vessels with ease.

Named Vessels

Com Guards
  • Manchester - So-called second prototype, construction of the Manchester was completed aboard the Faslane-class YardShip Plymouth. Assigned to Com Guard Second Fleet at Ross 248, the Manchester was among the ships that took part in the disastrous Case White in March 3068. Salvaged by the Word of Blake, the Manchester served as part of the defensive squadron for the Titan Shipyards during Operation SCOUR's assault on the complex. [1]
